The first ever "DU Musicians All Record Something and Post It Thingy"
We'll make this congenial--the loose theme will be "pastiche," an imitation of any musical artist dead or living. I'm flexible on the deadline, but shall we say get ready to put them up around the 30th of November? Cover tunes are fine, but I'd much prefer something original. This can be as fleshed out or as bare bones as you like, as long or as short as you like, etc. I'll try to locate some communal webspace for those who have none, and we'll see if tumbleweeds outnumber the posted tracks next month.

:P

2. Eeeeep!
The pressure is killing me! I'll try, but i'm not the fastest recording type out here. We're in the middle of two projects, one of the band, and one of me just doing a guitar instrumental album in which each song is meant to evoke someone famous. I've only got 5 done so far, and only 3 recorded.

But, i'll try.

3. No pressure--anything you feel like putting up
This is the first time we're trying this, so the rules are meant to be flexible to say the least.

5. Thanks. I'll Need The Flexibility
Like i said in another post in the group yesterday, i'm more a player than a songwriter or producer. I just want to crank it up and play, or sit down at the piano and work it. So, i have to derive special motivation to write and record. But, i'll do my best to not be such a lazy puke.

6. Here's something I'm working on at the moment (very rough recording)
I still have to add a better bass line (I came up with some of it on the fly as I was recording), tweak the drum sound, add some ambience, and post-production (oh, and add an ending). Here it is, in progress, warts and all:

7. Pretty cool.
A bit along My Bloody Valentine lines blended with some old Cocteau Twins.
Looking forward to the end result. :)

What band do you think it emulates?

8. I think you pretty much nailed it.

I'm inspired by a lot of different stuff (as well as MBV). I've really been getting into newer acts like Kinski, Paik, Comets on Fire, Autolux and the like. It doesn't hurt being a big Floyd fan either.

To tell you the truth, I am not terribly familiar with the Cocteau Twins' body of work, but you're not the first person to draw that comparison. I think I may have to check them out. Thanks.

my parody song "i'm aliberal" is at 23 on the comedy charts! the bad news is you can't post cover songs on this site unless you get a note from ascap and pay royalties....

13. "I'm aliberal" is fantastic!
That's no half-assed effort, for your emotions are expressed eloquently.
The variety in the heart of your song lofted my interest throughout.
Thanks, cleofus1 :)

I won't listen to anybody else's work until the thirtieth, so I'll have something to look forward to.

Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 04:48 AM by greyl
posted in the middle of October I was thinking "That's a generous amount of time."
Today, I'm feeling like I'm gonna end up having to cram. :)

edit: Just to add:

As yet, there are at least 6 people who expressed a desire to take on this challenge.

No pressure.

17. Haha. Thanks :)
I used the Speech Synth in FL Studio which interprets text using this input: "aypro krastinay terzwerk iz neverrrrdunn".

Mainly responsible for the fullness of the sound is from sending that signal through Waves 6-voice pitch shifter plugin. I originally intended to add more instruments so it would be a pastiche of that new burger joint commercial (wendy's?), but said to hell with it. ;)

*After 2 months of procrastinating, I decided to make a joke of it. I didn't want to upload a song I've done previously. Maybe I'll catch the next one. :)
