1. A great Tom Courtenay favourite of mine
is a TV movie called "Ready When You Are, Mr McGill".

It's about a man who has been an extra for forty years, and he finally gets a line. Tom Courtenay plays the title role, and he's both funny and heartbreakingly sad.

The director is the always-wonderful Bill Nighy, and he's a superb contrast to Tom Courtenay. IMDb gives it quite a low rating and that amazes me - I think it's a beautifully directed film, and all the characters in it are absolutely real.

If it ever comes your way, somehow, I highly recommend it.

2. I looked for that on Netflix...
...and didn't see it. I'll have to keep an eye open.

3. Perhaps because it was made for television?
It isn't available here through Quickflix either. My son saw it on Showtime and loved it, so when it was repeated
on Showtime Two, he recorded it on VHS, otherwise I'd never have seen it.

4. Ah. The law of availability.
I'll just have to keep an eye out; you never know where things will turn up. Maybe someday PBS will get hold of it, or someone will put it on YouTube or Netflix "Watch instantly." Who knows?

I do have to say, though, I live where it's much easier to find a copy of, say, Paul Blart: Mall Cop and the like. Not that I want to.
