So it begins - Nintendo confirms new home console
http://www.mcvuk.com/news/44058/Nintendo-confirms-new-home-console

Set to be shown at E3 in June and released next year, the first of the next-next-gen consoles is announced. I'm not sure either Sony or Microsoft will rush out the door to "catch up" as Nintendo is just going HD. It will be interesting to see if the big N sticks to proprietary format and stays a game machine only or if they enter into it with blu-ray support. One of the things about the new console that I've seen a lot of rumors on, is that they already have development kits out to third parties and are looking to get a lot more of them making games in an effort to shake the "only Nintendo can make good games for it's consoles" stigma. I don't know but if they can manage to get a Diddy Kong Racing sequel out that compares to the first one, I'll be on board :D
