1. I've been in Second Life since 2004.

And it's awesome. It's the game that I return to between games, does not require a monthly fee, and there's almost always something going on.

There are some really interesting roleplay areas...there's no actual overarching *game* per se, but I've played Mahjongg and Chess against people on virtual boards in the world. There are people who've actually built a rudimentary RPG, for Halloween I visited several haunted houses people made, and there was one season there was a stunning walkthrough build of the Peter Pan story.
