2. Yep
Undead and I-Guard, working on a very small chaos force (fantasy) feeling these days like raising a sick nurgle force... and giving it a Republican flavor

:-)

3. I-Guard
Already has a Republicain/Fashist feel to it, just expand on that...You could even name your Commisars Rumsfeld and Wolfiwitz

4. Well they were raised the old fashioned way
(Local store sells used, so they come straight from the eye of chaos)

Still they are survivors from everywhere in the Empire, and quite frankly I feel more like using Nurgle to make the polical statement... since we live in very sick times.....

5. Cheers for the Eldar!
I won a 500pt tourny today v/s chaos marines!

I admit I had a cheezy list, my opponent fought well but constructed a bad list.

Me
Avatar
5 Guardian troopers
5 Dire Avengers
2 Falcons w/ bright lance and pulse laser

Him
2 squads of 10 chaos marines with mark of the undivided, champion and flamer in each squad

2 Obliterators

1 Captain/Lord

First round I moved one Falcon within 20" of the Oblits and killed one, then he missed with the other (laz cannon)

Second round I killed that one and moved both Falcons to the sides of his squads and ate them up with Pulse Laser fire.

its my first tourny win :)

6. I can't get past the painting....
I got some bits and pieces of a Tau army together, and then I spend hours and hours painting in my hot apartment with terrible lighting... not too smart, I know.

I want them to be masterpieces right off the bat, but I'm not a prodigy! :grr:

I've got a can of EZ-off and I'm gonna take off the paint and try again... sometime. (EZ-off is supposed to work quite well for stripping.)

7. ok first off where do you live?
We TEACH painting

After that, you should see my first painted minis, a Ral Partha Cannon crew... those things are not that hot

Trust me keep some of your tau painted now, and then as you continue to improve you will see results

I'm just stubborn. =p

I really don't have the time right now to go in for lessons anyway... in another month or so I'll be good.

I'm in NYC, btw.

19. For stripping paint I recommend PineSol
A friend of mine told me about it and it works like a charm. Just soak the mini in the pinesol overnight and then brush it off with and toothbrush. (NOTE: I have used this on metal minis but don't know how well it works on plastic)

23. Wear gloves when you do this!
I learned the hard wat, that stuff will mess up your hands. Mine were dry and itchy for at least a week the last time I stripped an army.

9. Wish I had time
I have a nicely painted, good sized Warhammer Fantasy Empire army - Carroburg Red & Black theme so they can also double as good or evil soldiers when I play D&D. Unfortunately, it is basically collecting dust in my basement.

I also have a pretty good sized fantasy Orc army (mostly orcs with a few goblins)... I even have a Matt Verzani painted Grimgor Ironhide for my general. It's also collecting dust.

11. Painting only (Tau, a bit of Cadians and Space Marines of course)
Edited on Mon Nov-22-04 01:29 PM by Rochambeau
I don't play the board game because I don't want ANYBODY to put a finger on my beloved figurines !lol

I'm working on a special mod for the Golden Demon contest but I'll not tell you what it is (hehe secret scret).

B.T.W do you know that the French are considered as certainly the best WH painters in the world ? This year the French have won 3 of the 5 Slayer Swords of Europe (France of course, never a foreigner took the french Slayer Sword to his country but Germany too and the home land of the WH hobby, England, plus several gold and silver awards on various categories all around Europe. I don't know the results of the GD in Spain yet.)

Check here the winners of the French Golden Demon 2004

Anyone here plays Dawn of War on PC ? It's really a great game!

12. Dawn of War
I got it as soon as it was released, I hope they expand on it. The initial game is great and does well in showing the basics.

I would like to see the Imperial Guard, Tau, Tyranid, and Necrons added to an expansion, also bikes for the Space Marines.

What I don't like is that giving the scouts sniper rifles is a totally useless concept, because in order to fire them the scouts become visible, and they don't last long.

15. The scouts are not really warriors to me in that game
I use them only for recon anyway (upgraded with the plasma gun which is much better in case of confrontation) or as a support, behind a space marine squad on a defensive position, with the sniping gun because of its pretty good effect on the moral. The only way to make them play a true sniper role is against isolated heretics or bone singers for exemple Pang, pang, adios.

I'd like so much to play the Necrons, the Taus or the Tyranids too. Wait for a expantion, scheduled already. Otherwise there is a mod available on the internet that allows you to play the Guard (since they are already in the game) as the other races but it's not really interesting because they are weak and has no original facilities or true original support like Sentinels or Chimeras yet.

Check here for mods and other cool stuffs : http://dawnofwar.filefront.com/

Did you try the ModTools? They are available from Relic since about a month. The mission editor is really cool and rather easy to use after a couple of hours of approximations. I'm designing new skirmish/multiplayer maps with it and it's great.

17. i'm not, several friends are. 40k.
i end up knowing far more than i should.

they play necrons, dark eldar, tyranids, tau, guard, space marines, orks, all 4 major sects of chaos (mostly slaanesh and khorn get about -- practice for GTs), etc. but for the most part they don't like playing 'the cheesy eldar' particularly ulthwe and ienden, beil tan a bit as well. there is an amusing alaitoc army in someone's collection, though. necrons received a major revamp from 2nd, so the 2nd ed. players feel vindicated in playing them again, though some of the toys are a bit ... um... irritating. oh and there's a round hatred for seeding swarm armies and overuse of wraith lords.

and i own not one single 40k miniature piece. :D told ya i know more than i should.

20. Relatively new 40k player here
I have owned books for it over the years, but only recently began playing it. I currently have a little over 1000 points worth of Necrons that are in various stages of painting and assembly.

I am currently 2/2 in games I have played.

My first game was 500 points, Necrons vs. Sisters of Battle;

I fielded two 10 "man" squads of Necron Warriors with a Necron Lord armed with a Staff of Light and Resurrection Orb. My opponent fielded two squads of Sisters, each traveling in Rhinos, with a couple of beefed up squad leaders and some psycher commander. We did a Night Fight, so the first couple turns consisted of him closing the distance to my forces. Once in range the bolters started singing, however you can't keep a good Necron down, so they were back on their feet in no time to answer back with Gauss fire. Once troops began disembarking, my Lord and troops assaulted and cut the Sisters down mercilessly. It was bloody, but in the end I came out winning with only 6 troops gone for good.

My second game was much grander, and much bloodier. The scenario kind of screwed my opponent too. It ended up being a breakthrough type mission, I was on Defense, so I got to set up defensive terrain like bunkers and tank traps and razorwire. He got an opening bombardment of artillery. For those who have done this scenario, it's brutal. For those who haven't... Basically the board is divided into thirds and the attackers side is "No man's land", the second zone is my fortified area and the third is my side where reinforcements come in; also the attackers goal area.

I set up a nasty chokepoint with a bunker on either side of a narrow entryway, with tank traps and razorwire filling the empty area in between, past the wire I had a kind of sniper tower, followed by more wire and traps. Then I paced my troops, he bombarded and destroed a single tank trap, all the way in the back... bad luck on his part.

We were doing 1000 point game, so I had two squads of 16 warriors, a lord with a Warscythe and Rez. Orb, and a Heavy Destroyer. The rest of my troops, 5 Scarabs and 3 Destroyers, had to wait in reserve. My opponent was playing Chaos Undivided and fielded 1 squad of close combat infiltrating marines, 1 Dreadnought, 1 Prince/Lord/Thingy, 1 Predator and 2 squads of Marines in Rhinos.

It was ugly from Turn 1. He moved on the field, infiltrated his close combat squad up. His tanks began firing at the tank traps, and the Dreadnaught opened up on one of my squads in the forward bunkers. My Heavy Destroyer was perched in the pseudo Sniper Tower and somehow didn't get shot at. (I Think he underestimated it) My Lord was skulking around behind the Tower, out of sight. On my turn, my boys made a nice showing, their Gauss weapons cutting into one of the Rhinos and immobilizing it, blocking half the chokepoint. The heavy hit the Dreadnaught and left it stunned for the next round.

It just got worse and worse.... we slugged it out for the full 6 turns the scenario called for. I *barely* won by Victory Points; though not a single unit of Chaos made it into my goal zone.

21. Yup, and I got the new rules for WFRP...
The new magic system rocks, I love it. I ran a campaign on Sunday. Lots of mystery, gore, and intrigue.

Live roll play is the best form of story telling I can think of.

25. I know that feeling
I have two pretty good armies (Orcs/Goblins & Empire), all painted up & ready to go, but just never have time to play. Heck, I even commissioned a top painter to paint my orc general (Grimgor Ironhide, the black orc, painted by Matt Verzani) and only used him once as a generic "bad guy" in a D&D session.
