Argh just argh
I am becoming increasingly aware that there's a certain contingent who are prepared to accept the word of EXTREMELY dodgy types if they oppose Bush et al. I mean, people who are prepared to quote the views of Ron Paul, Pat Buchanan, etc.

I hate Bush because he's a dangerous right-winger. I'm not prepared to support any other dangerous right-wingers as an alternative. I am glad to see people split the RW vote; but I'm talking about people who actually seem to think that Ron Paul, etc, are better than certain Democrats.

1. The Ron Paul love here really disturbs me.
His opposition to the Iraq War is the ONLY position of his I agree with. The rest is typical libertarian, racist crap.

4. well, so do i
but that's a lesser of two evils situation. chavez just worries me; a lot of what he has done resembles authoritarians who come in the name of democracy. i don't know, it's just an impression; i guess time will tell

6. I am not a Ron Paul lover, but
I am in his district. It's not only the war. He also opposed foreign management of our ports, and his speech "Neo-Conned" was just amazing at a time when most folks had never heard the term. He speaks out against the rethugs, rather than being in lockstep (surely because he is more Libertarian than actual Rethug). I only agree with him about 12% of the time, but that is in comparison to real Rethuglicans with whom I agree less than 1% of the time.

7. Some DUers forget that the economic libertarian Ron Paul
is not a social libertarian. In regards to civil issues he is an old-fashioned palaeocon. His supposed progressive stance on civil liberties is a red herring. He is against the state when it inhibits how rich white men spend their money. However he's all for legally reinstating second-class citizenship for women, criminalising the GLBT community, ending affirmative action, and totally gutting social services.

Ron Paul is for a powerful conservative authoritarian state just as long as it doesn't tax the rich, and just funds the military, government and the police.

9. And Ron Paul is bad enough...
but the final straw that caused this exasperation is that someone cited an article by Pat Buchanan from a while ago, attacking Nancy Pelosi!

Buchanan is a fucking fascist IMO. He defended LePen, and has even tried to suggest that Hitler wasn't as bad as painted, and that if the allies hadn't fought him, the Holocaust might not have happened.

And when you complain (also about citing Ron Paul), there are always people who accuse you of 'shooting the messenger' and of letting 'formal ideology' distract you from the truth.
