Thorns in Boxes

My dream last night was the usual adventure story where I'm watching it at one point and then am a character at another. A fair princess and handsome knight had to finish a quest--and things were not always as they seem. Good meaning friends helped them along, though they sometimes made mistakes. And other friends turned out to be something other than they appeared--I still recall Mansur, a fellow who is 6'9" suddenly speaking in the voice of a little girl!--but the most interesting part was the end, when the princess was rescued and able to complete her quest--but the rescuer was an old crone, one she thought was bad because the crone had given her boxes of thorns. But the crone looked at the princess and said, "Even these thorns in boxes are gifts, and were necessary for you to obtain your desire, for they are gifts of time."

Just wanted to share this while the images were still fresh.

Obviously the dream is for you but it's so good of you to share it so that we may learn from it, as well. Thanks.
It seems to me to be about contrast in all it's various disjointed forms along the path or quest. The dream seems to say it is not the end of the journey but the journey itself. Clearly the most profound part is the box of thorns, the "gifts of time." Makes me wonder if it could be taken literally. I mean perhaps it's a strong reminder that the gifts cannot be separated from this very system of linear reality we call time.
I love the symbolism of the Crone. It's a shame that through time she's been turned into the wicked old witch, instead of being revered as the sage, the wise-woman. Wow, it just hit me that your dream has two aspects of the triple Goddess, the Virgin (princess/unmarried woman) and, of course, the Crone; the beginning and the end.
