1. I've tried to take this quiz in the past (as well as again now)...
and I can't choose between the options. For example, I'm not heavy, but I gain weight very easily and have a really difficult time losing weight; I'd be heavy if I didn't watch carefully. Another example is "My hair is fine with a tendency towards early thinning or graying". Well, my hair is fine (i.e., each strand is very fine) vs. course, but I have very thick hair (meaning a lot of strands) rtaher than think (meaning not many strands). I don't have a tendency towards early graying. Most of the choices don't fit me exactly as they are written.

I'd really love to know my actually dosha, so I think that someday I may just go to see an Ayurvedic doctor to find out for sure since I think that there's real value in Ayurvedic medicine.

5. Most people are a mix of doshas
and I think fine hair means less strands rather than thin strands. Sounds like you have thick hair. Also, I believe if you have a tendency to gain weight and have trouble losing it you probably lean more toward Kapha. The second section of the test is interesting - shows that while your basic constitution may be one thing, you may be *currently* unbalanced and leaning heavily toward another dosha.

8. HI, kineta! I was just going from my hair stylist's definition of...
fine vs. course, and thick vs. thin. I found this on the web: (bolding is mine)

What is fine hair, though? Not everyone knows exactly what is meant by thin hair, so make sure you know what you have before you try to style it. There is also a definite difference between fine hair and thin hair, which will make a difference in your style. Fine is a reference to the diameter of each single strand. You can have a lot of hair on your head and it can still be fine. Thin or thick hair is in reference to how much hair you have. If you do have fine hair, though, you will be susceptible to thin hair as well. Age, stress, medications, and diet can also have an impact on the thickness or fineness of your hair.

However, maybe they aren't using this definition.

my hair is fine also, even though it looks thick(er). It does tend to go flat. I have a lot of fine hair, small hair shafts. I don't think that's my definition for this test anyway. But fine/thin/thick hair is confusing.

2. I had to take it twice
you're right, the choices are not always so clear. In temperament I am all three of those things!

But in the end, I am Pitta, Pitta.

3. That was really neat!
I am Kapha-Pitta, and my husband is Kapha.

I also took part 2 of the quiz - and it was spot on! Excess kapha in the body (I have been feeling a bit congested), and excess pitta in the mind (I've also been quite irritable). I also like how they make suggestions for balance. In my case, they said more exercise and more relaxation, which I have been attempting to do! :)

6. I'm nearly 100% Pitta
which explains why I'm so damned cranky ;-)

Oh and I LOVE hot, spicy food, but guess I'm not suppose to eat it. Screw that!!

7. ps - thanks for posting that link Dover.
it's fun stuff.

I took some really great alchemy workshops with Robert Bartlett - he talked a lot about the doshas and really worked them into western alchemy in a comprehensible way. It was fascinating stuff.

Highly recommend his book, which includes *very* practical methods of medicinal plant alchemy.
