Another good one by Wilkinson. I've had that sensation of being trapped too. Like trapped in matter, trapped in my body and once even had a near panic attack from that feeling. And I was able to move from that space to one of acceptance by breathing and moving into presence and feeling the vast, limitless, timeless expanse of that space...and peace (check out the movie The Diving Bell and the Butterfly on DVD for a great story about this very topic)

I'll take a stab at the meaning of this this Sabian symbol and what Wilkinson might be trying to say -
Of course like the Tarot and I-Ching, the Sabian Symbols are about the Soul's journey and so it helps to interpret them in that context rather than more mundane interpretations based on current events.
Something that Rudhyar's Sabian Symbol book says about the meaning of 16 degrees of Taurus is this:
From the Zen point of view the mind, facing trouble, should not depend on past concepts but should repeat: "Not this! Not that!" - until the pure void is reached. We are entering into very new territory on this planet and in our spiritual lives. Some have been awakening to this for some time, others are just beginning, while still others have not yet begun.
And we cannot rely on the old and primarily unconscious reality of the ego/mind and this material world of 'form', when entering into this new realm of experience. So how DO we make our way in such an unfamiliar place? In our dualistic world we go back and forth between opposite poles which leads to frustration. What to do? Well, if you have a Sabian Symbol book there are some clues about this in the very next degree (Taurus 17).
--------
A SYMBOLICAL BATTLE BETWEEN "SWORDS" AND "TORCHES
Refusing to depend upon the past, the seeker turns warrior, fighting anew the eternal "Great War".When Gautama, having sought in vain for the answers to his questions among the teachers of tradition, sat under the Bodhi Tree, he had to fight his own battle in his own way, even though it is an eternal fight. The spiritual light within the greater Soul must struggle against the ego-will that only knows how to use the powers of the material and intellectual world. There is no possibility of escape, it is the energy that arises out of the present moment - the inescapable NOW -that the daring individual has to struggle with.
It suggests that the salvation is attained through the emergent individual's readiness to face all issues as if there were only two opposed sides. So teaches the Bhagavada-Gita. This is the dharma of this stage of human evolution: a stage of Polarization of Values.
--------
This ties in very nicely with what Tolle has been teaching about presence; showing us the way beyond opposites, duality and the ego world of form toward the third way...toward the present which completes the trinity. The space or stream that one enters into when fully present is a timeless, nondualistic realm and impossible to explain, which is why Tolle repeatedly says that he can only provide pointers to the way. The world of the ego must 'die' or surrender in order to enter this new place. Stepping into this infinite stream is a means of completing the circuit so that spirit can flow through us and into the world of form..manifesting through us. We are sort of the lightening rods or grounding for spirit, and must prepare ourselves to receive it.
So entering into presence in one of the primary practices leading to the new earth. This is a HUGE evolutionary step for mankind, and will require us improving our connection with the Divine by awakening and trusting and taking the leap of faith, moving with courage through our doubts, insecurities and confusion...being aware and present.
I'm also reminded of a paragraph in
The I-Ching Workbook, by R.L. Wing, Hexagram 64 (Before The End):
The text of The Book of Change warns at some length, in this hexagram, of the dangers of proceeding without caution immediately Before The End. You must prepare yourself with wariness and reserve. The coming situation will be strange to you in every way, unlike any that you have experienced. In the near future you will not be able to draw upon the wealth of your acquired experience, for in many ways the time will be nothing short of a rebirth.

Spirit into matter: lead into gold
The Trinity:
There are many aspects unified into this one powerful symbol.
Let's start with the triangle. This is an equilateral triangle with the point on top. It is an ancient symbol for Fire (Agni). It exists in all cultures. (In some cultures the triangle is reversed and symbolizes Water). The triangle is a symbol of the Holy Trinity: Brahma/Vishnu/Shiva, Father/Jesus/Holy Spirit, etc. The top point is the symbol of the Godhead, or in physics, the Monopole
- the No Thing, Stillness, Non-Dualism, Unity. In classic Kabala, manifestation of Light takes place in the form of a triangle. First there is the point, the monopole, and then light descends from the Godhead, above, towards the below. Then the light creates a third point, and eventually returns above to its Source. This represents Involution, or Spirit into Matter.
The upside down triangle with the point on the bottom is the classic symbol of Water (again, some cultures have it reversed). In the Hebrew tradition, this represents Evolution, or Matter into Spirit. This symbol also represents Inertia, which pulls downward and suppresses activity, ie, Surrender. This passive aspect of Creation thus represents the Yoni (female organ), the Emblem of Energy (Shakti), or Cosmic Nature (Prakti). The corresponding number here is two.
The Seal of Solomon is a symbol of the unification of Fire and Water, the unification of opposites, Above and Below, Male and Female. This represents Unity Consciousness. Fire, Water, Air and Earth are all contained in this symbol. The fifth element, or Quintessence, is hidden, or implied.
