Wickfodbard's Spring Equinox and Libra Full Moon newsletter
Spring Equinox & Libra Full Moon, 2008

Happy Spring!

Spring arrives on Wednesday March 19th (10:49 pm)Pacific time and Thursday March 20th (1:49 am)Eastern time this week. This is the day we mark the balance of light and dark, with the daylight hours now growing longer until the Summer Solstice. The Vernal Equinox has always been celebrated in the Northern Hemisphere as the return of life, and so we celebrate Easter, Passover (later on in April this year), Purim and the Persian New Year. If you want to read a myth about Spring Equinox, please go to: <http://www.starofthebards.com-a.googlepages.com/fairytales>

The first Full Moon of Spring comes 2 days later on Friday, March 21st at 11:40am PDT and 2:40 pm EDT. The Sun goes into Aries on the Equinox and the Moon goes into Libra Friday morning.

Aries is all about finding our own identity, passion and purpose in life. It's where the spark of life ignites for each of us, where we are willing to take risks, to begin something new. Like the Fool in the Tarot, we have to trust blindly to our instinct for LIFE. Libra is about what worth our purpose holds for others. How are we received? Who are our partners in this journey through Life? Libra wants to balance Self and Other, with fairness and justice. How do we take other people into consideration when we have goals to achieve? Desires to manifest? Look at our leaders – Aries is all about leadership – and see how they're doing regarding relationships, fairness, justice and honor. Is their passion and purpose to serve themselves or to serve the people? Don't we need a new vision of leadership? Not only in our elected officials, but in ourselves?

Aries also asks us to consider how we see ourselves. Where do we find our sense of Self? In the Ego, with its petty desires, or through the Self, which serves the Soul? Are we arrogant? Self-effacing? Assertive? Aggressive? Balanced? Open? Our Aries sense of self comes from different parts of our lives. Where is Aries in your chart? Our sense of others – Libra – is in the opposite house. What areas of your life will this full moon affect? For example, Aries is in my 11th house of hopes and dreams and friendships – as well as how I can contribute my creative vision to the collective. So that's where I come alive each year – working on how I can bring my vision of life into line with Collective needs. Libra is in my 5th house of creativity. Will my emotional needs be met if my creative projects find outlets through my 11th house goals? Find out from your chart where these new energies arise each year. They are your starting point for each year's new growth.

The rulers of Aries and Libra are also involved in this Full Moon. Mars rules Aries and Venus rules Libra. Mars is back in Cancer, a water sign, where Mars was when it went retrograde last November. During this retrograde period, Mars opposed Pluto, offering us the chance to align our ego desires with the greater imperative for personal evolution. Mars in Cancer focuses on our desire for family, for nurturing, for emotional security. Mars in Cancer wants to take care of those he loves. In this sense, he is fulfilling his original purpose. The Roman God Mars was a defender of the City and Family, the God who grappled with whatever obstacles or issues confronted him. This is an important element of the Masculine spirit, just as important as the need to assert, to focus on goals, and to individuate.

Venus is the ruler of Libra, and she is now traveling through the water sign of Pisces. Venus shows us how we connect, love, listen and create beauty in our lives. Venus can operate at her highest vibration in Pisces, showing unconditional love and compassion for the world. But don't forget that Venus' Greek counterpart – Aphrodite – was born in the foam of the ocean (Pisces). So Venus in Pisces can open us to the stirrings of the collective unconscious. Just think Mermaid! Venus can take us through the realms of the Imagination to find new, creative ways to connect with other people, other realms of consciousness, and new creative ideas. Venus is close to Uranus, ensuring that we will find our freedom once we discover what we really love.

Venus and Mars, so often paired as love and desire, are in a great relationship right now – both are in water signs, so be aware of your intuitions and feelings and act on them. How can your love of family or country be actualized through your love and compassion, your free will and spiritual vision? What are you waking up to? What new wonders are you discovering. What are you dreaming about now? (Tune into the Dream Lady to find out what they mean!)

Mars in Cancer is squaring this Full Moon and still opposite Pluto in Capricorn. These four planets will form a Grand Cross or Square, which means that they are all 90 degrees away from two other planets. These 90 degree aspects, called squares, activate a crisis point of energy, calling for action. This 'cross' with two oppositions and four squares, stops us in our tracks and demands that we sit quietly with our SELF before proceeding. The oppositions want us to achieve a balance and integration of the opposites: Sun and Moon ask us to recognize our need for relationship – we need other people (I believe this is the theme of the movie, “Into the Wild”); Mars and Pluto demand that we evolve our desire nature to find new ways to achieve our desires. Personal desires may conflict with relationship needs. Do you push others aside, or 'grapple' with yourself to find kinder ways to deal with others? Are 'more' material possessions the answer or do you need more 'spirit' in your life? The four squares will activate a turning point in our lives. To move forward on our path, we will need to resolve issues in 4 different areas of our lives. What needs to be resolved in your life? What needs to end? Do you need to quit your job, leave your relationship, change your habits, stop being a victim, discover your spirituality? Whatever it is, life is calling you to do it. And do it NOW!

The Sabian Symbols for this Full Moon are:

Sun at 2 Aries: A comedian reveals human nature. The capacity to look objectively at oneself and others – with humor!

Moon at 2 Libra: The transmutation of the fruits of past experiences into the seed-realizations of the forever creative Spirit. A repolarization of inner energies leading to a creative centralization of consciousness. This symbolizes a mystery – after the fruition of all past efforts and activities, you find the seed to the new life cycle in the SELF.

Pluto at 1 Capricorn: An Indian chief claims power from the assembled tribe. The power and responsibility implied in any claim for leadership.

These Sabian symbols speak to the fact that all of our life experiences up until now have made us who we are. Can we look at ourselves objectively? Have we achieved the maturity and accepted the responsibility of being leaders? For each of us, if we have traveled the paths of consciousness in our lives, are being called upon to lead in some capacity. Now is the time to stop and see ourselves and life objectively, and then go on and create the life we are called to by Spirit.
