Call to New Year's Peace Vigil voiced by Traditional Elders
From an e-mail sent by my old and trusted friend Betsy Stang of The Wittenberg Centr in NY. I also know Grace, author of the main message, having met her at various Native events around the country. She is a courageous and good-hearted Grandmother. Her words carry weight, and are worthy of consideration.

Meegwich, SH

-----------------------------

Dear Ones,
This is an important activation request coming from the Elders of the Dineh (Navajo) Nation. Please forward widely and communicate to us if you will be doing a gathering on this date.

Also the list is in formation, please email me [email protected], as soon as possible, if you are interested in cosponsoring this a Peace Vigil in your community.

Blessings, Betsy Stang
The Wittenberg Center

--------------------------

This is a call for Global Four Directions Prayer for Peace, a 24-hour effort to end the war and global violence with a Peace Vigil at the New Year.

We are asking all leaders and peacemakers to join us in this effort. The start date will be 12 Noon on December 31, 2004 starting in the Eastern time zones, and continuing through Noon on January 1, 2005.

This activation comes as a request from some of the Four Directions Elders and Medicine People as communicated to Grace Smith Yellow Hammer. We are requesting spiritual leaders all over the globe to call their people together in their sacred spaces so that all people, all colors, all directions are included in this effort.

With all the devastation of war and escalation of terror of terror and environmental harm on the planet, it is obvious why we need to come together at this time.

For those of you who will understand this, there was recently a quarter moon in the morning with two stars within the crescent. This along with the recent Venus alignment, is a potent call for an activation because it signifies both danger and opportunity.

We hope you will be inspired to join us in this call. We will have a web site in place soon for more information.

If you would like to cosponsor an event please contact us by email.

May peace prevail on Earth,

Sincerely,

Grace Smith Yellow Hammer - [email protected]

Reverend Betsy Stang, The Wittenberg Center - [email protected]

2. Sounds like a good choice
for ringing in the New Year. I'll keep my eye on how this develops. If I can't do the whole 24 hours, I can do part of it.

4. Yes, it would!
:hi:

In thinking about "sounds," I think I'll invite my singing bowl to chime in.

5. On the Peace subject,
did anyone else take note of this year's Nobel recipient?
" She founded the Green Belt Movement where, for nearly thirty years, she has mobilized poor women to plant 30 million trees."
What a breath of fresh air for the committee to choose this unique woman and her mission.
-----------
The Nobel Peace Prize 2004
The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2004 to Wangari Maathai for her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace.

Peace on earth depends on our ability to secure our living environment. Maathai stands at the front of the fight to promote ecologically viable social, economic and cultural development in Kenya and in Africa. She has taken a holistic approach to sustainable development that embraces democracy, human rights and women's rights in particular. She thinks globally and acts locally.

Maathai stood up courageously against the former oppressive regime in Kenya. Her unique forms of action have contributed to drawing attention to political oppression - nationally and internationally. She has served as inspiration for many in the fight for democratic rights and has especially encouraged women to better their situation.

Maathai combines science, social commitment and active politics. More than simply protecting the existing environment, her strategy is to secure and strengthen the very basis for ecologically sustainable development. She founded the Green Belt Movement where, for nearly thirty years, she has mobilized poor women to plant 30 million trees. Her methods have been adopted by other countries as well. We are all witness to how deforestation and forest loss have led to desertification in Africa and threatened many other regions of the world - in Europe too. Protecting forests against desertification is a vital factor in the struggle to strengthen the living environment of our common Earth.

Through education, family planning, nutrition and the fight against corruption, the Green Belt Movement has paved the way for development at grass-root level. We believe that Maathai is a strong voice speaking for the best forces in Africa to promote peace and good living conditions on that continent.

Wangari Maathai will be the first woman from Africa to be honoured with the Nobel Peace Prize. She will also be the first African from the vast area between South Africa and Egypt to be awarded the prize. She represents an example and a source of inspiration for everyone in Africa fighting for sustainable development, democracy and peace.

8. Le keeque Quebec
by which I mean I am flying off to Quebec province tomorrow then onward to the Granite State and then further south, and so may not be around to kick this as New Year's eve approaches.

Ergo, a keeque before departure so this does not sink out of site.

Blessings of the Season to one and all

11. an email update I got today.....
Edited on Tue Dec-28-04 04:00 PM by Desertrose
dear friends,
Its been quite some time since I contacted many of you, an urgent message from has been given to me to pass on to all who would wish to join in.

Lavon King, many of you know from Oh Shinnah’s talks has been contacted by Grace Yellowhammer Smith of the Navajo nation – Grace called Lavon to tell her both Hopi and Navajo elders that watch the night sky in their pre dawn prayers have seen changes in the Morning Star that alarm them, they put out a call to Indian Nations in the Four Directions to pray, and then they revised it and asked all that all who would to please join in prayer December 31 beginning at 12n EST . Continuing all day and then January 1 same time, all day – they say we all know what to pray for – at the time Lavon called me, even people from Tibet were joining -  the elders say too that so many prayers aren’t reaching the Creator because people aren’t praying from their hearts – given the latest earthquake... I felt I had to pass this on to as many as I could and if you can, pass it on too –

I wish you all good health and many hours feeling the sparkle loving embrace of our Creator – it is always there but we humans get distracted sometimes.

:hi: SH

Grandfather William Commanda, Traditional Chief and keeper of the Wampum Belts, Algonquin Nation, from Ottawa and the Kitigan Zibi Reserve.

And by Arvol Looking Horse, keeper of the White Buffalo Pipe for the Lakota.
