What the Bleep Do We Know and Ramtha
I recently had the pleasure of viewing What the Bleep Do We Know and loved it. As a Unity church goer I found that it really spoke to my current belief system. Then I found out that the blonde woman in the film is the channeler of Ramtha. Now, I haven't had much exposure to "The Ram". I remember seeing a 20/20 expose' on him/her years and years ago yet, at the time I was not prepared to accept myself as God. Also, when I lived in Boise I was friends with a couple that had attended Ramtha's school and spoke very highly of it. All that said, I have a very cynical, blue collar, Irish Catholic suspicion of "gurus". Just taking Ramtha's situation and how much his school costs (it's quite expensive) it is very easy for me to think of JZ Knight/Ramtha as a charlatan. Learning that JZK/Ramtha helped fund this movie has made me reevaluate this movie and even my own personal beliefs. If a charlatan is pushing this movie and even my whole belief system than maybe even that is a sham. Is there anyone here who is familiar with Ramtha that can set my mind somewhat at ease...or not? Thanks.

1. The way I see it.....
Edited on Tue Jan-03-06 09:46 AM by DemExpat
is that nobody has the truth in his pocket - and that everything (that I have seen) manifested here on earth will be tainted somehow, often by the factor of money.

Scientists, religious and spiritual leaders/gurus, artists, poets, musicians, writers, scientists, etc. all pursue through creativity the truth, and many have access to a piece of it to present to the world.

So, to make a long story short, I am open to just about everything as a possibility, and nothing as the hard proven truth, and I personally judge things by if something resonates with me, if intuitively I know/feel that it has merit.

BTW - I have not seen this movie, and had to Google Ramtha to see what this was, but I have had some experience with looking into many philosophies and spiritual practices to have come to my conclusions about lots of people having a piece of the truth to share with us. Unless something is apparently a fraud, (The person admits to it...:-)), I remain open and choose the things that speak to me and work with them for awhile.

I have always moved on from practices, philosophies and religious groups after I felt I got out of them what I wanted/needed at the time, and now adhere to none while being open to them all, or at least accepting of them all as being part of the whole.

Only I do categorically reject authoritarian, controlling, and limiting religions/ideas/dogmas as flights FROM the truth.

DemEx

edit: so to get back to your question, I would not reject something that spoke to, resonated with me because it was in part supported by someone/something that I did not completely trust or believe in. :hi:

3. She's quite a charismatic woman
Saw that movie too. And I agree. It was entertaining and inspiring in a gee-wiz, pseudo-scientific sort of way. That woman you're referring to struck me as particularly "studied", so I googled her almost immediately after viewing the film. Found out it was that same old 40,000 year old (something like that???) Ramtha warrior channeled through a hot blonde (now grown matronly) from the early eighties. LOL. What a high-end cash cow that lady threw together! (Oh well! What the heck, I say more power to her!)

Anyway, I'd venture from her dramatically affective delivery on camera, that she's had more than a little theatrical training. The New Age movement has had its ups and downs since the late 19th century. It used to be Mesmerism, spiritualism, seances and phrenology. Now it's NLP, newpsuedophysics, reptilian interlopers and astral channelers.

Nothing new under the sun.

Which isn't to say it's not edifying and fun to do far-out thought experiments like the ones that movie explores. Hell, I do it all the time! But, (just my useless two sense worth here) I believe we need to get beyond the whole "guru thing" you refer to. I think you're right to be suspicious of it. It tends to infantilize people, while giving them more to crow about than is really warranted by the facts. It's important to question this stuff, because in the end, most of it, though seeming to empower, can end up being subtly and powerfully manipulative. Like I say...

Nothing new under the sun.

Personally, I find the world to be utterly astounding, mysterious, beautiful and even miraculous all by itself without the high-priced overlay of chewing-gum metaphysics to sweeten it up and make me feel special. After years on the periphery of the New Age sub-culture, I've realized I'm not nearly enlightened enough to keep pulling out that credit card without a super-sized helping of self-reflection and scrutiny to go along with it.

:-)

Sincerely,

J

4. I think she's a fraud.
I read an article about her some years ago written by an ex-follower. This follower believed that JZ Knight has some real psychic abilities, but that her whole scam is run to fund her real love and interest in life, horses. All this pays for a luxurious ranch where she raises thoroughbreds, or at least that is the way it was twenty years ago. I haven't really kept up with her since then.

8. I don't know
I'm very skeptical but I have a friend from Boise who has gone to see her in Yelm. He claims that, while there, he personally experienced various psychic phenomenom that he could never hope to experience otherwise. Was he drugged? Was it the power of suggestion? I don't know. What I do know is that going to see her is mucho dinero.

5. I just think

of those who channel as using a pen name, then evaluate as I would any other writing.
I do not give it special emphasis due to the claim that it comes "from" some other plane/existence/etc.
To do so would invalidate a huge chunk of my spiritual belief system, which is, "we are one".

7. I don't know much about Ramtha but I recommend the movie
I was disturbed by the gimmick of not revealing the identities of the commentators until the end but of them all, Ramtha and the endocrinologist had made the most sense to me. So I was surprised to see that this bright, well spoken woman was supposedly channeling some ancient mystic. I'm very skeptical of such practices but I can almost forgive it if adopting such a personality enables the "performer" to dip into some otherwise unplumbed well of subconscious wisdom.

9. I've seen it happen before....
Channels get a nice clear connection going with "spirit" and then eventually the ego works its way in and the message is no longer very clear.

Of course there are scam artists out to make a buck off folks from the beginning....my sense is that JZ started somewhere in the middle and now....well although there is some info that resonates the truth ( there would have to be or folks wouldn't even listen) I have serious doubts about most of it. I honestly have not paid any attention to Ramtha for about 20 years.

I think the movie got some sorely needed truths out there but I don't doubt there are other agendas going on as well.

Discernment is still the best "word of the decade" LOL
