wooofreakin'hoo!!!!!!
Yesterday's session, plus days of heavy clouds, high humidity and high temps left me feeling pretty down. I meant to re-start and re-direct my blog. Instead yesterday I wasted hours just reading online crap and getting more depressed. I had the idea to write a series of articles to submit periodically to the local newsletter...but couldn't focus on a topic.

And then came this morning. The humidity is still unbearable but the temps have broken and my horse's feet are in need of trimming, so I forced myself to get Algiers done. The physical work, the sweat dripping...and then the clouds broke loose and the ideas finally started to flow.

I came to this farm to learn about and hopefully start an herb business. I found myself 15 minutes from an internationally known herbalist who's been doing it her whole life. Her business was thriving...now like the rest of us she's struggling.

I started on the MLT/biology degree with 2 objectives -- one to get back to earning a living and second to bring science to herbalism, in order to help open the minds of those who's are closed. There is a reason people mock "woo" because many "woo" practitioners are using the new age to rake in millions to the detriment of their clients. I considered getting just a biology degree, but last fall life "forced" me into MLT. With all the overwhelming upheavals and the workload of the last year, I forgot that second part of my goal.

In yesterday's session with Ms. Hess of manifesting money, she spontaneously said my blog would be "magical." That was *before* she knew its name is "Magical Thyme." And then she starting talking about my working with essential oils.

Well, look what turned up in GD(now moved to health) today!!!!

Aromatherapy Works! Jasmine as Powerful as Valium in New Study

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

What's so exciting to me,aside from the obvious, is that this is research I can do -- my lab professor in biology talked about how we can do research with animals without harming them. Here is a perfect example.

So why was I forced into "MLT" instead of straight Bio? Partly to earn a base living while I do my research and build the business. But also because in clinicals I will be learning things necessary to research -- such as how to run EKG and EEG equipment, draw blood, examine urine chemicall and under microscope, etc. ALL THINGS I WILL NEED TO DO FOR THIS SORT OF RESEARCH!!!!!!! The degree -- ultimately BS in biology/Medical Technologist (they're going to rename us Laboratory Scientists) gives me not only the knowledge I need but the creds with non-woo people. If you get what I mean :D

2. WOW! What a great epiphany!
:bounce: indeed! Congrats, NL! :applause:

Doncha just love it when that kind of lightning strikes, and you realize all the pieces were there all along, just waiting for you to put them together? And when you do, it's like the universe throws a party in your honor! :D

SOOOO glad this came to you!

I had a bit of an epiphany myself yesterday--a minor one, but important nonetheless. First, I've been a bit upset about losing writing time this summer. With MG Jr. out of school, there is NO WAY I'm going to have "alone time" to concentrate on rebuilding the lost part of my novel and then finishing it. Heck, I'm even going to have trouble finding time to write any freelance articles I get assigned. But without writing, what am I going to do all day when I'm not cajoling the kidlet to do his summer homework or chauffeuring him to swimming lessons? I left the question unanswered and tried not to fret about it.

Then, before I went to California, I started getting this feeling that I was supposed to have a bracelet on my right wrist. I get that sometimes--like I'm physically missing some sort of item, and I get the urge to go in search of it. I thought maybe I was supposed to pick up some sort of souvenir when we went sightseeing, but nothing presented itself. However, I kept thinking about these bead-and-suede bracelets I saw at Target.

Yesterday, while running some errands, I sought them out again. I bought one that was just suede with one charm (on sale!), but I didn't feel "finished". Then I went to another store for something else and cruised the sale racks in the jewelry department. There I found a couple of the bead-and-suede bracelets I was thinking of. I bought one pair...for research, I realized.

I'm gonna make these myself. That's my summer project. I've gotten away from making jewelry in the past several years (what with a small MG Jr. and tiny beads being a not-good mix ;) ), but I can do this while he plays. It's a different kind of concentration--I don't need solitude, like with writing, but it's still creative. I don't care if I sell them or not, but I might check with my friend who owns a new age shop, see if she carries jewelry on consignment. I think she does.

Epiphanies rock.

3. fun!
but what's the deal with "rebuilding the lost part of your novel?" Is there something I missed?!?

I was going to post the other day that I was hoping the reason you've seemed mia is because you're working on the novel.

4. A small personal tragedy, I'm afraid
For quite some time I was stuck in one place, a pivotal party scene where everything had to "go wrong" and descend into minor chaos (nothing slapstick, but close). Then, back in March or April, I had a creative breakthrough and wrote a good chunk of the party scene, plus dashed off a lot of notes regarding "what happens next". I was thrilled--really happy with it--the big picture and the tiny details that made the scene funny and clever.

And then my laptop shit the bed when I spilled water on it, taking that last version of my novel with it. My fault--I didn't back it up on Google Docs that one last time.

Basically I've been so depressed at having grasped that scene and then lost it that I'm too afraid to try to recreate it AGAIN, in case I can't "get it back" in as good a form as I had it last time. But I have to! I'm just not ready.

I think I'm in a fallow writing period at the moment overall anyway--I haven't even updated my blog. Waiting for the fallow period to pass...

6. awwwww, freakin CRAPS!!!!!!
from a former marcom hack to an actual writer, that is no SMALL personal tragedy.

Go make your jewelry. Hopefully the summer respite will bring the party scene back in full and better than you remember it.

9. It has indeed harshed my mellow
To say the least. x(

Thanks for the sympathy--only a fellow writer can truly appreciate the gravity of losing a pivotal bit of writing.

In my brighter moments I do think that perhaps it wasn't as good as I remember it, and it was meant to go away so I could replace it with better. I have asked for inspiration to go back to it, but it hasn't happened it. It will, though. :)

14. good thinking...
There have been occasions when I lost some writing -- :banghead: AAAAAACCCKKKKK!!!!! :banghead: -- and then found it later...and was surprised at how much it wasn't as good as I remembered.

So hold that thought...it's probably re-writing itself inside while you're looking for other occupations on the outside! :fistbump:

5. Butting in...lol

I am soooooo not crafty myself any longer (there was a time when I was, but it feels like another lifetime), but I'm super interested in jewelry created from recycled materials. I've always felt this would be such a great cottage industry for creative types.

I can't find the link right now, but recently I found a site where artisans create jewelry from recycled bicycle parts. Very, very cool stuff, too.

It fits in with the whole "Piece Process" idea I'm developing (link in sig), so if you or anyone is interested in an outlet for craft items that fit in with the "Piece Process" philosophy, please keep me posted.

Godspeed to you as well with your epiphanies, MG.

11. Some good stuff
I have seen some items created from recycled materials like bicycle parts and even tire rubber. Amazing stuff! My version of recycling is "finally using the zillions of beads I can't stop buying that then just sit there in their little trays collecting dust".

Thanks for the Piece Process reminder--if you think that this sort of thing would qualify, I'd be MORE than happy to link up with you! :hi:
