Julia Roberts plays the lead character. :)

Here's the trailer:

1. I loved that book ...
... and will see the movie but you know how it is when things get translated to the big screen. LOL I'll be there anyway.

2. The trailer looks really good.
I haven't read the book but happened upon Gilbert during an interview discussing her book "Committed," and liked her right away, especially when she said that marriage is an experiment in social living. That cracked me up and rang so true at the same time.

Now I'm torn as whether to see the movie first with no preconceptions or read the book that I hear is fabulous. I like decisions like this :)

Thanks, IHAD!

4. I only got about halfway through her book
and then she lost me.

I saw her most recent book entitled Committed. I thought it was a little ironic as she began her first book divorcing her husband--who basically just wanted her to have a family with him. Ah well, perhaps I missed her enlightenment and epiphany at the ashram.

5. The same thing happened to me, eilen.
I got through the Eat part and into the Pray part. It wasn't as though I didn't like it. It just didn't compel me to read it, so when I got busy, I never got back to it. The movie looks good to me though; I'll definitely see it. I do hope to ultimately finish the book since so many people here like it so much.

14. she obviously married the wrong person for her
She refused to say anything negative about her husband in the book, except insofar as he made it difficult to get a divorce. I got the impression that she felt trapped, in the same way that many men feel trapped, when they marry early.

One thing I have learned--you really can't force your feelings, and it seems she was no longer in love with him, probably through no fault of his.

She felt an angst about her entire life-- kind of an early midlife process.

It's unfortunate, but it happens. That's why the divorce rate is so high.

But I see what you mean about the irony of the next book's title.

There was a point in the middle of the book where it kind of bogged down. It picked back up again later.

15. I'll see the movie first...haven't read it, always wanted to
I adore Julia Roberts, she really has always seemed a very conscious yet grounded person despite the limelight...of course, she from my generation, so the resonance in consciousness is there too.

Looking forward to seeing it, no spoilers! teehee
