After the primaries folks just went their seperate ways and I took on the role of campaign manager as well as Girl-Friday for the local party. I looked into going last month but, when I got to the listed place, I could find no one there for meet-up. Two were signed up according to meet-up.com but if they were there I couldn't find them.

Since I am setting my sights on higher level politics I don't have the time to take on a leadership role w/DFA now either. who knows, maybe someone with take it on. I will keep you posted.

I'm an organizer and I was not aware of bumperstickers or a Lakoff DVD (hell, we meet in a restaurant and couldn't even play a DVD). What's up? I just volunteered to be an organizer last month. Did I miss the secret organizer's meeting or something? I hope no one's coming tomorrow night expecting bumper stickers or a DVD! :shrug:

I'll sign up on the hosts list and the Yahoo group. It's a little late for me to do anything more about this month. I work today so I don't have time to organize any exercises and I don't have the DVD. I wouldn't have a way to play it anyway since we meet at a restaurant.
I got Lakoff's Elephant book as a Christmas gift. I've only read up to page 64 but I recognized how important it was and I placed a bulk order for the members of my small DFA group. This was sheer lucky coincidence since I knew nothing about this month's agenda (or even that there are monthly agendas). The books are supposed to arrive today but I don't know for sure that they will. I've printed out copies of lakoff_exercise.pdf and lakoff_worksheet.pdf but I'm afraid that may just be confusing without the DVD. Since it's a relatively small group (10 to 12) maybe we'll just look over the exercises and try to do them as a group.

Added on edit: By the way, how do we get the bumperstickers?

I got involved with the DFA meetup after the election. I get an email from Howard Dean (I guess because I was active for Kerry) inviting me to the November meetup. I wanted to stay politically involved so I went. I was the only one who showed up! I went to the December one and about 9 or 10 of us showed up. We needed an organizer so I volunteered. Beyond that I don't know much about the organization except that they want to organize at the local level and they want to run candidates for local offices. Everything I know I got from meetup.com and the other people who were at the December meetup. :shrug:
I suspect that there may be a lot of disconnected DFA groups out there going their own way without a clue.

Meet-Up, the website, is supposed to have the data of the groups available for DFA. Maybe there is a major disconnect somewhere along the line.

I've been told that you are on on the national steering committee for DFA. As you can see from my other posts on this thread, I've been suffering from some confusion as a new organizer. I volunteered as an organizer just last month and I and the other people at the meetup thought that simply meant that I handled the mailing list, made sure that the venue was expecting us, etc. We had no idea about monthly agendas, contacting the national organization, etc. I'm going to take madfloridian's suggestions and sign up on the hosts list and the Yahoo group. But it's only because I was surfing for info on framing last night that I even discovered that there was a national agenda, a DVD, etc. (I had, only by coincidence, already decided to make it part of our local agenda). And I only found out about the bumperstickers by stumbling across your post, how can we get some?
Is there some way that the organization can get a list of DFA meetup organizers from meetup.com and make them aware of the resources available to them? I'm concerned that there may be other disconnected groups floundering out there!

Make sure you go to the DFA site and follow your nose to Meetup site from there; it may be the kids at Burlington are overloaded with updating; Meetups are growing beyond anyone's expectations.

I've been getting daily digests from the Yahoo group and I got an email from Tom Hughes on the 6th asking me to file a January report. I also get occasional emails from "Meetup Organizer Support" at meetup.com. Should there be something else?

Is there any way I can get the January packet? My group would really like to see the Lakoff DVD (that's in the packet right?) and go through the exercises. We'd like to have it before the end of this month if possible. We have a special houseparty scheduled on Jan. 30 (outside of the usual meetup schedule) and we'd like to be able to use it there if possible. Our regular meetup is in a restaurant so we really couldn't watch a DVD there. I've written several emails about this but I've gotten no responses. If they can't send it, is there somewhere I can purchase the DVD?

Also, how can we get some of those bumperstickers?
