Just look at this sweet face....
This is Tippy. She's available at the Wisconsin Humane Society.

I had never heard of her breed before (catahoula leopard dog) so I went and looked it up. This gave us a good chuckle:

"You must be ready to teach and exercise a Catahoula. If not, he will eat your house. The Catahoula will not let you forget that you own a dog." --Don Abney<16>

Catahoulas are highly intelligent and energetic. They are assertive but not aggressive by nature. They have a need to take charge of their pack whether other dogs or humans. Catahoulas in general are very even tempered. Males tend to be more obnoxious than females, but Catahoulas are very serious about their job if they are working dogs. They make a good family dog but will not tolerate being isolated, so interaction with the dog is a daily requirement. When a Catahoula is raised with children, the dog believes that it is his or her responsibility to look after and protect those children. Many owners will say that the Catahoula owns them and they can be insistent when its time to eat or do other activities. Catahoulas are protective and a natural alarm dog. They will alert you to anything out of the ordinary.<17>

1. My Cindy is a Catahoula Leopard
whom we adopted from a shelter in L.A. :-). They are great dogs. I would have 10 of them if my husband wasn't around. Here she is:

4. She's gorgeous!
And I understand about having more if the husband wasn't around. I once told Paul I wanted another dog and he said we didn't have the room. I said I could get rid of something and he was less than pleased to find out what I meant (though I'd never really get rid of him). We still ended up adopting Brownie afterward.

5. Great story! My s.o. doesn't care for dogs (cultural thing)
but he's so kind that he's volunteered us to 'sit' for a neighbor's toy poodle some summer weekends.

7. LOL Will :-). We do have one other dog Murphy, who is an ACD
and they love to chase each other around. Cindy is a sweetheart, very gentle. Murphy is more hyper, but a really nice dog, too. We adopted him one month after adopting Cindy. He came from a shelter near us when we lived in San Diego County. They are both eight years old now.

2. Question
She's precious.
My question- is $300 a normal price to adopt a shelter dog? Seems a bit high. But I've never adopted a shelter dog, usual get them from friends.

3. The $300 is because she's a puppy...
The price drops (quite a bit) when they're older dogs. Wisconsin Humane Society has an excellent placement record even with those prices so I figure they must be doing something right.

8. That is the going price for a pup here in W PA too.
You have to figure that they are spayed/neutered, have all the shots, are vet checked, have no parasites. All of that is expensive if you get a friend's pup and I am sure you would spend as much in that case too. Also, I don't mind the money going to a good rescue group.

6. Looks like she may be taken
I just checked the link, and it says she's no longer available. Hope she went to a good home. :)
