Dog with diarrhea. Home remedies?

My lab is having a bout of diarrhea this weekend. Probably I indulged his weakness for french fries too much Friday night.
Other than the squirts, he seems pretty normal.
Is it OK to give a dog things like Pepto Bismol or Immodium?

1. Don't know about giving your dog meds, but here's a site with some useful tips.

My vet has told me pretty much the same thing, anytime my pets were having problems.

2. I keep children's Imodium AD in the house for pets.

I did this after my sister used it on her cat. The cat had feline AIDS and she took it to the vet for diarrhea. The vet just started this big lecture about how the cat did have AIDS and would have problems, blah blah blah. When she left after being frustrated by the whole lecture, she realized that he had not addressed the one problem her cat had---diarrhea. She swore she would never go back to the vet, and stopped at the drug store for Imodium and it worked wonders. I have used it many times, with no ill effects and it has always worked, sometimes needing a second dose.

its actually better to let it run its course and make sure pet or human is adequately hydrated

if the problem persists for more than a day or two a visit to dr is good idea

4. True. And I let it run its course most of the weekend.

And I'm pretty sure the cause of it was greasy fries and gyros (you know, the GOOD kind) Friday evening. Sunday afternoon I finally did give him some Pepto. Most of the comments I found on line indicated it was OK.
Wish I knew why my dogs always get sick on the weekend when the vet's closed.

My husband gave her some of his left-over fast food. Not good And since too much fast food does him the same way, he should have known better.
