Good thoughts (and GPS vibes) needed...
My second-youngest cat Finnegan has gone missing.

Last Thursday, he and Riktor were outside and greeted me when I came home from the weekly Errand Marathon. I let them in the house before unloading the car; it was getting cold. The boys had been out for about 6 hours and I figured they were most likely hungry.

I SAW Finnegan go inside for a few minutes- he probably got something to eat (free-feed station here) and used the litterbox (snow on the ground). He came back outside while I was unloading the car, and that was the last time I saw him.

He didn't come in later that night...and hasn't been home since. He just *disappeared*.
I checked the car to make sure he hadn't gone in while I was unloading and gotten stuck...
and I checked my trunk too...I'd had it open for unloading purposes.
No Finnegan. :(

I've called and called. I've checked the animal shelter, both via phone and in person (they haven't had ANY black cats come in) and filled out a 'Lost Cat' slip for them.
I've put an ad in the 'Lost and Found' of our local paper.

Finnegan is neutered (had it done before he was 6 months old) and has a microchip (he won't tolerate a collar).
He is very obviously Somebody's Beloved Pet...he's well-nourished, sleek, shiny and had good 'people' skills.
His volume control goes to 13 when he is really frightened, so he's quite capable of making his presence known.

The weather has been bad...snow, cold in the twenties and teens. I'm hoping he's holed up somewhere safe at least...and will return when he is able.

Riktor went on an unexpected 'business trip' when he was about Finnegan's age (not quite 2 yrs) and finally returned almost two weeks later. He was skinny and starving, but otherwise OK...

I hope he comes home SOON...it's not just me. Wimsey doesn't need to have his heart broken again by losing another brudder/sidekick/sparring partner.

1. Sending good energy in your direction, and asking the angels
to help Finnegan get back home to his loving family. I've had this happen with cats in the past, always the males. If they knew how much we worry about them, they would stay at home safe and sound.....nah, they're cats, they would do whatever they please.

Seriously, am praying that he comes home ASAP.

3. Thank you...
This is one reason I try to get my boy-kitties fixed so young; before the 'tomcat' hormones kick in.
You hear so much about "Tomcat = fighting and spraying", and it's true...
but roaming is another tomcat behaviour that causes a lot of grief as well. :(

5. Have you been able to follow tracks in the snow?
Edited on Wed Jan-27-10 07:58 PM by The Velveteen Ocelot
Chances are he's hiding nearby. I had a cat go missing once in subzero weather (he snuck out when I wasn't watching). He was gone for almost a week and I was sure he'd frozen to death because it was SO cold, but he finally turned up at the back door, hungry and with dead leaves in his fur, but otherwise none the worse for the wear. I think he hid out under someone's porch.

I think he'll come back. Keep calling and put food out, maybe that will lure him out.

6. It snowed the night AFTER he went missing...
...which is why I'm worried.
I do watch the tracks (cats, dog-next-door, rabbit, etc.) here and where they go.
That's it...I'm hoping he IS holed up, safe at least (if not not-hungry) and waiting until he doesn't have to hike through snow up to his furry little shoulders.

9. No...
:(
I've got an ad in the paper, and check with the animal shelter every day.
Yesterday they did have a black cat come in...(hopes go up, fingers cross...), they weren't sure whether it was neutered or not.
"Finn is neutered...he's all black, has short hair and very long whiskers."
It's hard to find distinguishing marks on solid-color kitties.

She went and checked...the cat who'd come in was a long-hair with very short whiskers.
Not Finnegan.

The good news is that they haven't had any black cats who didn't make it across the road come in...so that's SOMETHING.

11. Still nothing...
Thank you for asking...
There WAS a cat at the shelter...black, DSH, neutered, microchipped...
except his microchip # didn't match up anywhere even CLOSE to Finnegan's.

I hope his people come and get him...shelter is not a nice place.
Better than outside right now (teens with a below-zero wind-chill factor), but still...:(

13. Is there any chance that he got locked up in someone's garage
or storage shed? Do you have neighbors nearby with out-buildings?
