True story - Morbid humor about a parrot...
Edited on Sat Apr-22-06 08:35 AM by FormerRushFan
So it was "pirate day" where my wife works..

One woman who works in a different dept owns a parrot and walked around with the parrot on her shoulder (arrgh!)

As you know, parrots live many years, but you probably didn't think they outlive their owners and get new owners.

As it turns out, this parrot's former owner died of lung cancer.

From his prior owner, the parrot learned a "smokers cough"...

So going down the hall, you'd hear this hacking cough echoing down...

I just thought it was kind of funny...

1. Be careful what you say...
and be careful of any repetitive noise around these guys. That is sad, but funny!
My best friend has an Amazon parrot who is a pretty good talker. He also makes normal parrot screams and squawks. It struck me one day that some of the squawks were oddly kind of cut off and went up and down in a strange way. When I asked her about it she said, "oh, that's me and Joe (her ex-husband) fighting!" As witness to a few of those fights, thank god he didn't get a chance to perfect his pronunciation.

2. The place where I buy my pet food sells birds and fish, no cats or dogs.
One day, while waiting to pay, I heard a dog barking. I looked around and asked the owner where the dog was. She told me that they had a parrot for sale that had lived with a dog, and it now barked like one, and that was what I heard.

3. My vet's office has an Amazon parrot....
(I think that's what they call it.) When my dog was crying because she was at the vet's the parrot made sounds identical to her. I have also heard this parrot meowing like a cat.

4. My aunt's parrot yells "HELP!! HELP!!" when the doorbell rings
Sounds very upset. Scares the hell out of UPS guys and florist delivery folks. It was a monthlong project of my perverse cousin when my aunt was in Europe once.

It's last owner was a Jewish friend of my aunt's, and t can sing part of the Hava Nagila, sings along with Barbra (although not as well) and yells "Esther!! Esther!!" in a heavy Brooklyn accent. Also says "what are you, a wise guy?" and laughs EXACTLY like my aunt. You'll be talking at a party, and someone will laugh, and they you hear something that sounds like my aunt laughing, only about 3x louder.
