problem with Firefox 1.5??
i just installed Firefox 1.5 and, after rebooting, i've noticed a problem at the following link:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/gate/archive/2005/11/30/fiorewhile.DTL

i can hear the audio perfectly but i can't see the video ... this is not the case if i open the same page using IE ...

any ideas?

fwiw, on the options menu, i have "load images" checked and "for the originating website only" not checked ... i specifically "allowed" images for this domain to be displayed but that didn't solve the problem ...

1. Try these, from the same page

Problems seeing comics?

If the comics aren't changing each day, or if you see a "Not Available" message, please try these solutions:

1. Force the page to refesh by holding down the Shift key and clicking the Refresh/Reload button on your browser.

2. Clear your browser cache. In IE, this is under Tools -> Internet Options -> Temporary Internet Files

3. Try temporarily disabling any ad-blocking and/or privacy-enhancement software you may use.

4. Try these links if you are using:
Norton Personal Firewall 2005
Norton Personal Firewall 2004
Norton Personal Firewall 2003
Norton Personal Firewall
Zone Alarm Pro
eTrust EZ Firewall
Firefox Browser http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/fun/firefoxhelp.asp

If none of these solutions work, please send us email at [email protected].
Let us know which browser version you are using (ex: IE 6.0, Netscape 7, Safari, etc.)

2. it was Adblock but ...
i turned off Adblock (temporarily) and was able to see the video ...

i went to my Macromedia Flash settings and set an "always allow" on sfgate.com but when i reenabled Adblock and returned to the video, i couldn't see it again ...

is there a way to leave Adblock enabled and give bypass authorization for a specific website? i thought that's what i did but it didn't work ...

btw, thanks for your help ...

3. I was thinking AdBlock ...

I hadn't had a chance to reply before now.

I don't use AdBlock for reasons like this. It ends up blocking content I want to see, and I really don't have the patience to set up complex sets of allow/disallow for every website I might visit.

Anyway, yes, there is a way to allow it. You have to figure out the URL that points to the content you're wanting to allow through, which often is not the same as the URL for the site you're on. As I said, I don't use it, so I can't give any more specific advice. Sorry.

5. Weird ...

I swear they have their own consciousness sometimes and are playing with us.

I have a strange "problem" with Firefox on Linux. When I first install a new version, ever since 1.0, links in other applications won't open the browser when I click them initially. After a seemingly random number of restarts, it eventually works properly without any intervention at all on my part. I've never understood this, and since it fixes itself apparently, I've never been able to trace the source of the issue.

Anyway ...

6. I heard that there were problems with Adblock and Flash 8 video
I'm not sure if they were ever resolved or not. Have you tried searching the Adblock forum?

8. I use a CSS file instead of AdBlock
It doesn't use up memory and works great. I can also customize it as needed (like, once in 2 years, to display an Amazon.com button). Check it out here:

with the comedy central site. No see Johnny Stewart!

I found the solution here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=320838&sid=3f24a24eeec60b3491b6197d34d5e283

I upgraded to Adblock Plus and can once again get my Daily Show fix. :bounce:
