I tried to find an answer re: New Facebook. Can you help?

When I open the Facebook site, the first page is now,

Welcome to Facebook'

People you may know.

Well, I don't know who they are and do not want this feature. It shows me friends of family or friends of friends or whoever they are. Plus it is about 300 pictures and names.
I think this is ridiculous.

If I can't resolve this, I may close the whole thing. It is a nuisance and I feel I am being imposed upon.

1. I'm no expert about Facebook but try this....

When you first login, you will see your name at the top of the page, over to the right a bit. Click your name.
The page you now get is much more about you but you do have to put up with ads to the right of your stuff. I don't know if there's a way to get rid of the ads.

2. After much thought and a chat with my family, I decided to delete

my Facebook account. I will keep in touch with those important to me in other ways.
