WIFI-based phone question
My wife is considering dropping her cell phone account. She really doesn't feel we can justify the monthly cost based on the really limited number of calls she gets. Most of her communication is done by Facebook and she can use my phone when she needs it. She has a standard cell phone with limited internet capabilities (no data contract).

OK, here is what I'm wondering. I have a LG Vortex that I love...best phone I've ever used. At some point, I might trade up or buy her a similar one, used on E-Bay, if I do, can I rig the phone for her to run a Skype type application on our WIFI? I think Skype requires a phone# which I'm not sure a used phone or my old one would have...if I get a new one, I'd transfer my # to the new phone. Is there a work-around or an Android application that works on the phone's unique IP address? How about texting?

I don't have our iPod Touch with me but I seem to remember setting up an app, think it was via google, that worked fine as long as you were on wifi, it has a built in mic and use the ear buds or your on speaker phone.

Edit, I checked and it is google, and btw if you don't need a phone the touch is a cool little device

Editing my edit... I know you can make calls this way, to receive calls I think there is a bit of setup involved that I have not really bothered to learn about for example check this out
