I have heartily offended Microsoft Word...and Works...and Office. HELP!
Or give me penance and forgive me...I'm so tired.

I paid a nice man to replace my dying hard drive. He installed stuff. Which was fine. Then I installed stuff and all hell broke loose.

My MSOffice is serviceable 2000. But I have Outlook 2002 from my iPAQ and Word 2002 from Works 2004. I made a dreadful error when I installed Word 2002 from Works 2004. I allowed it to make Word my email editor. Ye gods what a complex operation a simple email became! And nowhere could I find a way to undo it.

So I thought, uninstall Word 2002 and reinstall it but don't do that this time. FOOL! FOOL! FOOL!

I'm assuming all the rest of you know that won't work. I am going insane. Autorun has decided not to work. Install works but WILL NOT INSTALL WORD. It literally has an X next to it. Oh, why? I have tried the uninstall reinstall option on both the Works disk and the Control Panel Add\Remove software. It does things, claims all is well. Nothing is well. There is not a viewable whisper of Word on this machine. If it still exists, it's in a dungeon and I am refused access.

I'M SORRY!!!! FORGIVE ME, MICROSOFT!!!

I don't know what I did and I have no clue how to undo it. And I can't afford another dime for the nice(but expensive) man who replaced my HD.

Now for those who tell me I don't need it, I would agree but for one thing, which is huge for me: the MSReader add on that allows me to create ebooks. It is easy and I use it often.

Can anyone help me? Can anyone tell me wtf I did wrong?

1. Did you install
Office 2000? What applications do you need from that version? I have had Office 2000 and Word 2002 both installed at the same time with no issues. No experience with two versions of Outlook. You should probably only use one.

Please install this, and see what the install panel shows you have installed:

3. I figured it out after much ribald laughter from my BIL.
Seems that "uninstall" is not a serious term. It's really "hide it till you repent." Trying to re-install Word 2002 with a smaller footprint is not possible. I can only re-install exactly like I had it which was the COMPLETE version (why, why did I dooooo that?) When I fully repented and agreed to let Works 2006 install the same COMPLETE version of Word I just removed, it was a go.

5. Oh, that's brilliant ...

"'Uninstall' is not a serious term. It's really 'hide until you repent.'" Love it.

Glad you got it figured out.

You could actually do what you were trying to do, but it would have been a bit of a complex operation.

Did you manage to prevent Word from being your e-mail editor?

6. Yes!
Almost as if it were a reward for my sincere repentance. Amazing how one suddenly finds things magically appearing in places one has already looked.

2. Which application are you referring to
that has MSReader add on? Is it THIS MSReader?

4. The add-on isn't the Reader. It lets me use Word to make books for the Reader.
Which makes me happy.
