ANyone use FireFox? I have a minor question
tho it's bugging the daylights outta me.

I switched from SlimBrowser, which I loved, in order to eliminate the use of IE (on which SlimBrowser is built).

Anyway, I finally found how to make FF create tabs in ONE window, instead of opening different windows.

But when I click on a link, say in a DU post, FF opens a new window, not a new tab. I've looked under Options and don't see where I can make a change to have new links open new tabs, not new windows.

Any ideas?

2. I don't know if I get your question but
FF opens the way the link is set to open. If the link is set to open in a new window, that's what it will do. If it is set up to open in the same window, it will do that. BUT in that case, you can open it in a new window or opening in a new tab, by right clicking and choosing that option.

3. Middle click and ctrl-left click don't work with Windows?
Just checking -- know that bringing up the context menu works, just the other two ways are simpler for me.

4. Download Tabbrowser Extensions
Edited on Tue Nov-16-04 08:33 PM by koleszar
You will be amazed at the options! http://texturizer.net/firefox/extensions/
Once you download it, you will click on the tab menu, then tabbrowser extension preferences, then open up 'general' and customize.

7. Hey! Right click works. Who knew?
Of course, that's an extra step, but still better than dealing with an extra window. Thanks!

Thanks also to kolesar (sp?) -- I've bookmarked the page for those extensions. I'll be back to play with those another day. The Tabbrowser set scared me off for now (warnings about what could go wrong, directions of manually uninstalling if you hve to go that far...Yikes! Don't need that right now).

Thanks again, all.

8. Again, just click with the middle button - or hold down the
control key while clicking with the left button :) quicker than the context menu or the extension

10. Don't be afraid. It is so easy.
I never even read any warnings! Once I installed the extension, I set up my FF browser to automatically do all the things that others have mentioned in this thread. It automatically only allows one browser window to be open, it always opens off-site links in new tabs, etc.

As far as uninstalling extensions, the most I have ever had to do was to open the extensions list from the tools file menu, and choose uninstall. Firefox is very user friendly. The more you play around with it the more comfortable you will be :)

9. Middle or wheel click works
I also suggest AvantBrowser, which always opens up in tabs. Only one incidence of Avant can run at any given time, so it's all tabbed, and it has lots of cool features, including the new RSS feed reader.

Here's the link:

http://www.avantbrowser.com

Keep in mind, Avant is basically a shell built around IE, but it has the security and features (ability to block pop-ups, flash, etc) one would find in Firefox or Opera. I use it as my default browser (Firefox as a backup) and it works great. I recommend it.
