1. Haven't done that
but I have put it on a mini-ITX Atom motherboard system without any problems. As long as you have an external optical drive to load with.

3. Are you having problems?

Or just asking beforehand?

There shouldn't be a problem.

4. Asking beforehand. I'm having trouble installing it on my Mac, but of course
that doesn't really tell me anything about what to expect with the Acer. I was going to try to put it on the Mac first to make a thumbdrive of the install disk for the Acer, which has no optical

5. Ah ...

Well, I've not put it on an Acer Aspire specifically. I did a quick Google search and didn't note any specific problems people had with Acer itself.

In case you haven't found it, here's Ubuntu's guide to installing from a USB stick:

6. Thanks. I can't yet tell if it works, from my current efforts, but it's simpler than
the other instructions I had

8. report 1: internet searches suggested getting a wired internet connection ready, on
the grounds that the ubuntu install would leave wireless networking dysfunctional until fixed, BUT I had the opposite occur -- wireless worked immediately but not the ethernet connection

At present, update manager is installing new package files wirelessly without any obvious problems

13. no mic in ubuntu
I just put ubuntu on an old dell inspiron 4000 (p3) and my
skype wouldn't work. I found that the mic was turned off (by
default?) when the OS was installed. This was the latest
version of ubuntu that I ordered on a dvd off the internet.
The mic on/off control can be accessed by double clicking the
speaker icon at the top of the page.

14. There's a known audio driver problem with the Acer Aspire One. Unfortunately, none of the
published fixes I've tried have worked

17. I've done my share of waiting for drivers in Ubuntu.
Waiting for wireless drivers was the worst, but I haven't had any troubles with that lately.

The only thing I've really got in my "zero expectations" bin anymore is wine, but that's okay because I don't need it and when some windows application "just works" in wine it's like a pleasant surprise. When I must use Windows -- for example to test web pages against various flavors of Explorer (6, 7, and now 8... oh crap!) -- I use dedicated Windows machines.

Good luck! It sounds like a solution to the Acer Aspire One mic problem will be coming around soon.
