What's the best & fastest box I could build to natively run Windows95 on?
I'm into old vintage computer games.
WinXP does a pretty good jub of running a lot of old software
with its "Program Compatabilty Wizard" app.
Emulators like DosBox are a big help also.

But some of the stuff I've got just won't run on anything
but original hardware, so I've got a notion to go antique-hunting
and assemble a true best-it-can-be Windows95 system.

Any advice y'all can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance! :hi:

Richard

1. Assuming you can still find the hardware
I'd say an AMD Socket A system or an Intel socket 370 Pentium III system. Anything much newer probably won't even load Win95 since the BIOS on the motherboard won't let you

3. Then you should be all set
The hard part is finding a good IDE drive smaller than 137Gb-that's if you have a boot disk with the newer version of FDISK-the older will only work up to 64Gb.

4. Well, it's really just a matter of time to find ANYTHING around here...
Sooner or later, it'll come through the door.
Everything always does.

I just needed to know what to start looking for.
I was always a Mac guy in my youth, and I didn't start
playing with the IBMs until around 2001, so imagine
how much I have to learn about 90s-era PCs!

Thanks again!

Richard

5. Depending on your location, you may find free stuff on craigslist
older hardware is particularly plentiful
