Not about a computer, but about cell phone usage.
Two phone #'s are constantly calling my cell. I've checked online and the info indicates theyare both from fund raisers of some kind. The one only calls once every few days, but the other one calls several times EVERY DAY! I don't answer, and just delete them from the missed call list, but it's really starting to pi** me off! I just got this cell phone, my first one, about a month ago, and I bought it ONLY for emergency use if my home power goes out. It's a Prepaid GoPhone. Is there ANY WAY I can block these calls?

BTW, I tried using my other online phone to call them back, and I reached a "call center" that asked for my password. I entered theie phone # and was disconnected.

1. call your provider and have your number changed
tell them that you have received a recycled number that has political and fund raising ties. Inform them that you will choose a different provider if this is not rectified immediately.

2. Thanks, but I don't want to do that! I ported my old land line # to the
cell phone because I had that # so long, there's no way I could know who to contact about a change. I was just hoping there was some way to block #'s on a cell. It's worse getting them on the cell than it was on the land line because if you DO answer, it costs YOU $$!

3. I dunno about a GoPhone ...

What's the parent company ... who services it?

I know with the Spring and Verizon phones I've had I could block specific numbers. I'm not sure how that works with a GoPhone.

Try calling customer service to see how this is done. The land lines my old employer offered had a feature where you could block lists of numbers or individual numbers. It's pretty standard in that market. I don't know much about how cell phone service is put together, but I would think it would pretty generally offer the same kinds of things.

4. AT&T. The reason I chose them is because they are one of a
very few cos. that let you buy $100 in mins. and they are good for an entire year. I didn't want to get involved in having to buy new mins. every mo. or 2 or 3 because they expired. Remember, I said I don't intend to use this phone except for emergencies if the power goes out or there's a fire or something else unforseen.

5. AT&T should have that feature ...

They basically invented it.

7. FWIW, Sprint has it on their website ...

You can just go in to your account and enter the number you want blocked.

I've never had an AT&T phone and so don't know what's available there. Also don't know if the GoPhone service has the same kind of website service.

Anyway, hope it works out. I can barely tolerate unsolicited calls on my land line. On my cell phone, it makes me rather twitchy.

8. You're obviously a much calmer person than I am. Twitchy is NOT
the way I would describe my reaction to these unwanted calls! ;o)

11. Yeah, that's a familiar sounding story ...

:-)

I got one last year. I'd had them before, but people had given them to me because they thought I needed them and just paid the bill for a year as a gift or something. Then I'd let it expire and disconnect. Now I have three lines, one for my mother and one for a friend who has no money.

And I've even read DU on the damn thing. It's not easy, and I wouldn't recommend it, but it's possible.

I still hate my cell phone.
