Sesame Sesame Street's 36th season begins April 4. Focus on healthy habits
"Sesame Street's newest curriculum is part of a larger Sesame Workshop company-wide initiative, "Healthy Habits for Life," created in response to the growing crisis of childhood obesity among children. The preschool years are a crucial time in children's lives to foster healthy habits. Recent data reflect both the immediate and long-term consequences of poor dietary behaviors. Tackling the critical issues of health and well being, Sesame Workshop continues to set the benchmark in educational television with Sesame Street story lines that guide preschoolers and their caregivers through lessons related to healthy eating, the importance of active play and other key activities such as hygiene and rest."

I think this is excellent that Sesame Street is trying to educate young children about the importance of eating healthy and exercising.

1. Good to some extent
But the cynical side of me says...that Big Bird should tell the kiddies to turn the TV off, then go and get some exercise...

2. Yeah, but...
I saw a clip of when Cookie Monster was undecided between a piece of fruit and cookies?????

Now that's just not right!!! The whole point was that C.M. was out of control and couldn't resist... COOOKIeeeEEES!!!

3. Sesame Street Doesn't Understand Itself Anymore
Look...I'm not saying kids should eat only cookies...c...cookie starts with C!

The point of the monsters to me was always the problems they had...

Harry Monster if I remmeber correctly had an anger/breaking things issue...he'd get excited and things would break...

Oscar the Grouch was impolite and dirty...

Cookie Monster was a glutton....a round doughnut with one bite out of it also looks like a C but it is not as good as a cookie!...

The point was that they were monsters so they showed kids what was wrong. It's wrong to eat cookies like cookie monster, or be rude like Oscar, or be as physicall as Harry.

Then they made Snuffalufagus real because they were worried kids wouldn't tell parents about child abusers, and elmo, and cookie monster eating healthy...Next thing they'll take Oscar out of the garbage can and have him comb his hair all the time because being dirty and rude is wrong...

Look if Oscar was clean and polite would there be any point to him, and calling him Oscar the Grouch?

So ridiculous. I wish I had taped Sesame Streets from about 20-25 years ago and just played those for my children.
