Latest and Greatest kitchen gadget...

After struggling with my abelskaver pan to get the damn things made without a huge mess, and giving up, I saw this thing in K-Mart for 18 bucks.

That's less than I paid for the damn pan, so I gave it a shot, and it works absolutely as advertised. Perfect golf balls of cake. It even comes with an injection gadget that does a great job shoving various creams and jams into them.

9. I'm totally off the butter after that adventure
I'm actually going to actively avoid K mart today because I know one will come home with me and find a home in the back of the pantry with the cookie maker, the fryer and god only knows what else is resting back there. I have a huge walk in Pantry whose back shelves hold a veritable treasure trove of crap. I sometimes don't even remember what I have back there which is how I've managed to wind up with three cookie presses.

11. I wish I had a pantry that could hold a lot of things...

You know me... I'm the one with 4 stand mixers (and I recently gave the 5th one away!) I love them all and they all have things that they do "best". Sadly, two of them (the KitchenAid and the Bosch) are boxed in the garage, one of them (the Cuisinart) is in frequent use in the kitchen and the other one (the Magic Mill) is on a shelf in the hallway waiting to be called into action. Little fryer is on a shelf in the garage. Juicer is on a shelf somewhere else. Other things are boxed in other places.

Lucky you for having a big walk-in pantry where your treasures can be close at hand (even if you do forget that you have them!)

I'm wondering whether the little cake-ball machine would work with muffin batter. I'm dreaming of the "Donut Muffin" recipe made into those little balls instead of little muffins (oh! injected with caramel!!!). Or blueberry muffin balls. Or blueberry cream cake balls.

Uh-oh, better watch it, I'm talking myself right into a new machine!!!!

And I've been thinking about little carrot ginger balls injected with Fig Jam all day. I can even do that vegan! I have everything on hand to do it but the machine. I have one of those little pancake pans that were so popular last year but I just never managed to master the technique of turning the balls with the stick. I tried a few times, made a total mess and finally shoved the pan in the back of the pot cabinet.

I did drive past the K mart where they are on sale so I guess that means...I won't be getting one. I think TB said they were 17.99....Mmmmmmm I might have to cave if I continue to think about it though. I've been avoiding looking at those ebay links you posted....OY!

The pantry is a blessing and a curse for someone like me. I'm a stock piler and things get lost in there pretty easily. I just don't use up the stuff as fast as I can buy it. If something is on sale usually 2 or 3 come home with me...

10. How do you like the donuts?
Are they really like cake donuts holes that donut shops sell? 'Course they're baked and not fried, so that would make a difference.

I'm really curioius about the recipe they recommend - and are there variations or a selection of recipes?

Now that you've tried it, what do you think?

13. Their recipe book is beyond lame-- it's useless. Just to see how the thing worked, I...
mixed up a box of chocolate cake mix I had sitting around, and it worked just great. I didn't count (and licked enough spoons to make three or four) but I'm sure it made over two dozen from the box. I see no reason why it wouldn't work with my muffin recipes or yeast waffle dough.

Yeah, they were a lot like the donut holes you can buy in a box, just a little larger and rounder. And lighter.

(I'll find out more after cleaning up the mess from this weekend's festivities.)
