Aarti Party's Saturday Sloppy joes
just had the filling (on a bed of rice) for lunch.

What can I tell you people? It is damn tasty... damn good... just be careful of that sneaky capsein in the Serrano.... yes somehow I managed to get it on my face... still burning... but that too shall pass.

But the recipe, amazing. Why not Sloppy Joes? Gluten Allergy, so we went for a bed of saffron infused Basmati rice.

1. You'll want to get some cheap disposable gloves
until you get used enough to working with hot peppers that you never touch your face until you've done a 30 second scrub afterward.

Those look good to me, too, but I need to get some fake kibble vegetarian hamburger stuff to try them out.

I love the fact that she doesn't start out with two dozen spices roasted and ground, that she's got a light touch with Indian seasoning that makes it marry well with Western favorites.

2. I did, and I do work with peppers often
that is why I said somehow.

Now I took care of it in the mucosa... I think it happened when I washed it actually while deveining. ... that I think was the mistake. I actually used a little milk in the nose... with a q-tip... yes did the trick. Now the side of the nose... took a little while. But it is now gone.

Oh and I did not have one of the spices, could not find it... the masala, so I used cinnamon instead. No cumin seeds to be found, ground cumin... just go light on it.

But we are having that tomorrow with eggs.

And do NOT, I repeat this, DO NOT leave the half and half out.

4. I believe she said you could sub any old curry powder
for the masala, it's just a way to get the turmeric and other spices into the mix.

Curry needs the taming power of either dairy or nut milk, or even coconut milk, IMO.

I have a spice grinder, so the cumin is never a problem---or any other seed spice. It also minces large quantities of ginger and garlic, such a deal.

5. Did not hear that, and I did think
CURRY... but went cinnamon instead, nevertheless it was so damn tasty.

And found the problem with the pepper, Glove broke, and some of the capsein got under the nails.

It happens.

:-)

6. Nothing beats staggering home after that extra 12 hour night shift
and starting to brush your teeth with capsaicin arthritis cream.

Needless to say, it was a good thing I didn't have to go back that night because I didn't get to sleep for hours.

8. One time I was working as a dishwasher in a restuarant
and didn't have gloves. Was asked to dice up a whole bunch of jalapino peppers. It took me a long, long time and oh man, were my hands burning!
