Yet another thing noone told me about: popcorn
Dear lord! I was just looking for a new snack. I'd been doing peanuts, veggy pieces, cheese-its, and triscuits for so long I just got bored with them.

I saw I could buy a bag of popcorn (just corn) for 1/2 the price of a box of microwave popcorn.

LoL. I think that one bag may last me until the Rapture! I have already made enough popcorn to equal what I'd have gotten in a box of microwave popcorn and hardly put a dent in the stash.

What a frugal snack. Plus I get the benefit of adding freaky spices when I feel like playing.

Add cheyenne, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder when drinking beer
Add parmajohnny ( :) ), wee bit of nutmeg when on the wine

I haven't found a good mix for homemade blackberry brandy. I may be reaching too high :P

How do you buy your popcorn, and how do you doctor it up?

:hi:

PS: you guys have to let me know about these sneaky ways to enjoy saving money :D

cheddar popcorn sprinkles and love that just as much.

4. Inchie! How old are you boy?
That's how we always popped it when I was a kid and then some. Microwave popcorn was unknown of, as were microwaves except for the wealthy.

Sadly, I haven't had any popcorn since my diverticulitis attack over a year ago now, I think. I miss it a lot. I used to love to eat it with melted butter and parmesan cheese. Also, salt, melted butter, and eat it with Rolos! Oh, yum! I miss my popcorn. x(

Enjoy, bud! :hi:

15. LoL
I'm semi-old only :P

I never was a fan of popcorn, really. A piece here or there out of someone else's bag is all I've eaten in 20-25 years.

I remember Jiffy-pop as a kid and we had a specific pan used only for popcorn. I like a snack I can make savory. I guess that qualifies me as semi-old. Hey wait! We used to fill brown paper bags and take to the Drive-in. Yup... semi-old.

37. I'm a popcorn and M&M girl, myself.
Though I do think the Rolos would rock, now that I think about it: love the salty/sweet thing.

I don't eat popcorn that much anymore; too tough for my system these days. But every once in a while, there is no substitute... :)

5. My Dad used an old stove-top popcorn popper that he got
many, many years ago, and we still use it now, along with his recipe: Corn oil, Orville Reddenbacher White Popping Corn. Pop the corn until done, then add salt.

7. I really can't eat that microwave stuff, even the "light" is way too salty
so I do corn the old fashioned way in a pot on top of the stove, a little safflower oil, a few drips of real butter and a small sprinkle of salt at the end.

You're right about being able to play. Nutritional yeast is a great additive, gives your popcorn a cheesy flavor. Add a little chile powder to kit for a kick.

Popcorn is a great snack if you control the fat and salt. Microwave popcorn is total dreck.

8. If you don't already do this ...
... you should store that popcorn in the freezer. It keeps better, and pops better.

I usually pop mine in a combination of oil and butter (it takes some oil to keep the butter from burning). That way it tastes buttery without any wet spots.

9. Try replacing some of that excessively healthy oil with,,,
bacon drippings when you pop.

And, if you have some butter, marshmallows, chocolate, and a double boiler (OK, you can use the microwave) there's all kinds of incredibly sticky, messy treats you can come up with.

(Microwave popcorn is the first sign of the fall of civilization. Air-popped isn't too far behind.)

10. You can make your own microwave popcorn with a small brown lunch bag.
I fill it and fold it just like the prepared stuff and just use a little tape on both sides. But you can't use the same bag twice unless you need to start a fire. :)

12. Love the Amish popcorn. Tiny, white kernels with great flavor.
My family from Indiana send me a bag every so often. I can also buy it retail here at Williams-Sonoma but I am not sure how old the stock is. Anyone know an on-line source where I can buy this Amish popcorn?

Would never have given it much thought but my family in Indy is moving here soon--my source will be gone.

Popcorn in great!

26. When I'm feeling like I want something off the regular food plan
I pop the pop corn in a paper bag (in the microwave) While it's still hot Add melted butter and chocolate chips or Raisinettes and shake that bag up a bit. I put Kosher Salt in the bag before I pop the corn so I get that sweet and salty thing going on.

34. it's very yum actually
nutritional yeast is a lot like brewers yeast, but the flakes are larger. It contains all the b vitamins and almost complete amino acid chain. Because it is yeast begin with a small amount until your body adjusts (intestinal gas is uncomfortable) each day increase the amount until you are taking about 2 tablespoons full. eat in yogurt, popcorn, drink it in water or juice, however.

Hey and sorry about the dupe. I must have been so excited about my popcorn recipe! :hi:
