if they can make carbs taste like meat, why can't they...
....make meat taste like carbs, for those who can eat meat but not carbs?

Grains and veggies become burgers and chicken and sausages.

So why can't a good flank steak be made to taste like a cookie? A cream pie? A goddam cheeto?

I did it the other day when I was having a candy fit. They tasted pretty awful but it cured the craving. There are also some fairly decent cookies you can make with Almond flour and egg whites. I don't have a specific recipe that I can recommend but I've made them following a recipe I found on the Netrition bulletin board...I'd look for you but I'm exhausted and going to bed. Sort of like a macaroon...If you can find some unsweetened coconut you can make those too.

I know it's not quick and easy...I've been craving graham crackers and milk which was my comfort food as a kid.....I finally bought a chocolate graham protein bar...It wasn't the same and I went over my carb ration for the day...but far better for me than the real thing... sigh.

Oh and for the cheetos theres a product called Just Cheese which are crackers made with just cheese..They make a Pizza flavored one that is just deadly in the calorie department for me because I have to watch both ..But you can do it yourself by shredding some cheese really finely and baking it on a silpat sheet in the oven until they are toasty. Really really good! I like Parm but really any kind of cheese works. I've even heard that you can just microwave a slice of American cheese in the microwave to a crispy state. I've never tried it.

I have no choice...It's either eat this way or die far too young. It just goes to show you how the human body is a fragile machine. Everyone is different. In my twenties I was vegan for three years and then moved to vegetarian till I was about 33. I just kept getting heavier and believe me I wasn't munching on the oreos or cheetos. My body just can't tolerate the carbs. I had my daughter when I was 35 and I put on another 80 pounds then which I haven't been able to lose. I ate purely low carb starting in my 50's but still couldn't lose so now I track calories like a fricken fiend. I'm obsessed with fiber and making sure I only eat low on the glycemic index. I want to maintain my mobility as long as possible and with the severity of of arthritis I have I'm looking forward to a number of surgeries. I need to get the weight down even more. I've found a treasure trove of products that have helped me stay committed like the shiritaki noodles and particular brands of other foods that I can add to the daily routine to break it up. Although I still gravitate towards the "natural and organic" way of eating I've also been finding using some of the "low carb" brands really helpful to maintain this WOE. If you ever are interested in finding out which ones are good pop me a PM. I've probably tried them all.

Big score for me today in the asian market...Shiritaki lasagna sheets. Now I just have to make a special trip for the fat free ricotta (I know--But I can't have the full fat)

3. I put a slice or two of smoked Provolone into a warm skillet
and cook until the fat renders out and it's light brown and crisp.

I then use it in a fake BLT.

I like it a lot better than bacon.
