Anybody ever been to a King Arthur Flours class?
They are here in Portland this weekend. I'm wondering if anyone has ever been to one of the "traveling" classes and what they're like. If I can drag myself away from DU for a few hours I think I'd like to go, but am wondering what I can look forward to.

1. I've never had the opportunity
but I'd get my butt in there if I did.

I love their flour and go out of my way to find it here in NM. Their "King Arthur Flour 200th Anniversary Cookbook" is one of the real baking bibles out there, an indispensable book for anybody who bakes or wants to learn how to bake. Yes, the recipes work with anybody else's unbleached white bread flour. I just happen to like King Arthur's the best, it's the New Englander in me.

My guess is that even the most experienced bakers in the world will get something out of these classes.

2. I'd go in a heartbeat.
I discovered KAF's Baker's Catalogue, and I've spent a fortune on that website. The catalog alone is inspiring.

GO--you'll have a great time, and then come back and tell us all about it!

3. Go!
I went to the artisan bread class and loved it. Their instructors and very into what they're doing and even a veteran bread baker like me learned something. Plus, you get a prize--I think it was a bowl scraper.

4. I could never coordinate it logistically
time-wise, or sometimes financially, but I lived 45 minutes from the KA factory and school. I've since moved, and am only 90 minutes away, and have remarried, so child care isn't as critical. I'm not much of a baker, but I always wanted to take their pizza class.

They're very well respected. I didn't know they "took their show on the road" but if they're offering something you're interested in, I'd go for it.

Thanks for the reminder. I need to look at their calendar. It might be easier this spring/summer to hit up the pizza class.

BTW, to get a flavor (no pun intended) of what's offered, go to the educational section of their website to see what they offer.

If you're into baking, shut up and do it. They make the best flour, and undoubtedly you will learn more than you thought.

6. That's right, I forgot
Been away too long.

Anyway, which Portland are you talking about? Oregon? Go for it.

Maine? Hell, you can drive to the KA center... it's on the VT/NH border right next to Hanover.
