Anyone ever had one?
Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 07:25 PM by hippywife
A really incredibly bad day in the kitchen when absolutely nothing went right, even with things you've made hundreds of times? That was my day today! Arrrgghhhh! Everything I touched today went to shit! (Pardon me!) This happens every great once in awhile to me for some reason. :banghead:

This happen to anyone else on occasion for no apparent reason?

2. Oh yeah!
Over easy eggs turning to rubber before my eyes.

What if I add just a drop of red food coloring to make the chicken soup a nice yellow color? And it turns pumpkin orange.

Pork chop shoe leather surprise!

Oh yeah.

4. I really don't know what causes it!
Tired? A little, maybe. Tried to pack too much into one day? Could be.

My yogurt didn't set up right.

Forgot to put the salt in the bagel dough and they came out like big, flat, chewy bialys. Not that there's anything wrong with bialys, just not what I was going for.

Started my mushroom tomato sauce for eggplant parm. Put the olive oil and minced garlic in the pan and tossed in the diced tomatoes before sauteing the mushrooms.

Started breading eggplant slices to fry them and couldn't figure out why the first few slices didn't look right. Forgot to mix flour in with the bread crumbs and parmesan cheese and seasonings I usually bread with.

Nothing is a total loss. It's all still edible but not quite right. Just stupid, stupid mistakes all day long today for some reason.

Glad I'm not alone, but sorry you have them, too, eleny.

5. My today just plain sucked
Some plumbing work at the house we're renovating turned to shit in a heartbeat ...... and we had to rip out new work to fix it right.

Sparkly called all atwitter about the **brand new* DVD recorder not working when she tried to record a show from the teevee.

I made the Cook's Illustrated version of the NYT bread. Turns out I forgot to 'whisk the dry ingredients together' before adding the wet. That *might* be why it didn't rise very well and baked up harder than a brick. That ....... or dead yeast that i just bought. (I also misplaced the yeast and it took us fifteen minutes last night to find it ..... next to some sugar free candy I had put on the dining room table. It was frighteningly like an Alzheimer's episode.

After dinner tonight we checked the dishwasher. It was full of water and the control panel was flashing at us (it never flashes .... the lights are normally either off or on solid). I killed the breaker in hopes of resetting the board. Nope. Tomorrow we'll ahve to call the Kitchenaid Buttcrack to come fix it. I have no doubt that'll cost upwards of three or four hundred I hadn't planned to spend.

I need to shower and shave tonight. I hope nothing more goes wrong ............

6. Wow! Sorry, H2S.
Seems someone else had a worse day than I did. And don't I know about those Old-Timers episodes. Whew!

Maybe you shouldn't handle a razor til morning?

Hope it gets better and the Buttcrack doesn't charge too much. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

and you can check for recent tats and piercings.

There is always something to look forward to, you know.

7. Okay, the mess in the kitchen
is now cleaned up. I was doing so good cleaning as I was going for awhile there but that went by the wayside at some point, too. Making eggplant parm is a messy ordeal but so worth it.

The ice cream is now on. Hopefully, that will at least come out. There have been times it hasn't, tho.

8. Every once in a while the Moon is in Klutz
and I know that anything else I do that day will fuck up completely.

I generally sit down to computer games and eat rice crackers and go to bed as soon as I can justify it, just to get the day over with.

My sympathies to all who have families and can't do that.

14. That would have been my choice, too,
but the husband likes to eat and I had promised a little eggplant parm to two people at work. I was in a corner. The eggplant did come out delicious, tho.

I do like your approach, tho, Warpy! :hi:

10. lasagna that even the dog wouldn't eat
actually turned up her nose and walked away from it. to the point I won't ever try lasagna again.

Oh yeah.

I usually just throw it all in the garbage and order pizza. Or eat ice cream. Either way.

21. I'd need to go to therapy
one of those people who specialize in repressed memories.

I honestly don't know. But I just can't do lasagna. The good news is my son-in-law makes the best lasagna in the world, so the problem is all fixed now. :)

11. My last batch of Lemon Curd.
Gross. Grainy. Wouldn't congeal.

I've made it the same way for 2 years now.

Always perfect.

But not this time.

Maybe it was the eggs.

It really shook my confidence.

12. Sorry you had a bad day, hippywife
My worst day was having to use the huge slab of beef liver that my mother provided and follow her orders to "be creative". Curried liver in cream sauce is a very, very bad idea.

I also stuck the birthday candles in my husband's favorite carrot cake before the cake was cool enough (my worst mistakes happen when I am behind on time) so when it came time to pull the candles out and serve, each candle came up with a huge hunk of cake attached to the melted 'roots' of the candles.

Curried liver in cream sauce? Now that is creative!

Maybe a liver chunkin' contest? See how far we could throw it!
