Kohlrabi
I just pulled eight of them from the garden. First time I have grown them. I have never eaten one. Does anyone have a tried and true recipe for cooking them? They smell a bit like broccoli.

I love kohlrabi... a wonderful ole time veggie.. I guess you could use them in place of turnips if you wanted.. :)

2. They are incredibly versatile
and one of my favorite veggies, but I love the whole fart food family.

I use them peeled and sliced in stir fry when I can't find fresh water chestnuts. Unlike the water chestnuts, they contribute flavor as well as crunch.

I mince them and saute them with button musrooms and broccoli and use them as a filling for crepes. Again, it's the crunch along with the flavor that makes them so lovely.

I have had an embarrassment of riches in the kohlrabi department and have grated them, added grated carrot and a little minced scallion and dressed them with coleslaw dressing, an unusual and wonderful variation of coleslaw.

I've peeled and sliced them, steamed them, and eaten them with salt, pepper, and a dab of butter. Heaven!

Basically, you can use it where you'd use cabbage or broccoli. The flavor is similar but a little milder.

3. I just love them raw with a little salt
When I was growing up, my neighbors grew kohlrabi in their garden. The mom would add them to her beef soup. My friend and I would peel them and sit outside with the salt shaker. A nice memory :-).

4. The young greens are edible too
A simple dish for small kohlrabi: pare and slice the kohlrabi knob and cook in boiling water until tender. Save the greens and boil them separately. Drain both when done. Puree the greens and toss with the sliced kohlrabi. Add this mix to a white sauce or cheese sauce (if you use a commercial sauce, heat it before adding the kohlrabi.) Remove from heat and serve as a side dish.

5. Thank you for all the recipes!
I tried them all and liked all of them. I also liked them steamed with a little butter.
