1. Why does everyone hate PETA?
I am not a vegitarian, I do however respect their choices. I don't understand the hatred towards Peta here, why?

It's pretty surprising to see on a progressive message board no less! :)

3. I think a lot of people find them WAY over the top
and incapable of picking their fights wisely.

For instance, although they do try to educate people on factory farming, they really haven't confronted much of the abuse head on, except in one factory chicken farm. They have, however, tossed paint at silly women in fur coats, something that got them no sympathy whatsoever. Neither did their sexploitation adverts "I'd rather be naked than wear fur."

They have a serious perception problem and they'll continue to be the whipping boy of the left unless they address it.

4. I disagree with some of your points.
"Incapable of picking their fights wisely" is untrue. Unfortunately, PETA is expected, and called upon, to take up every single animal cause out there. Should they? If they can touch off a ripple that causes others to make waves, then sure. You know, even the whackjobs that hate PETA will call them. Oh, yeah. They see some form of abuse, they don't do anything themselves, but they'll call the police (good), call animal control (good) and threaten to call PETA (huh?).

The fact that PETA is a household word, for better or worse, proves that they're doing what they set out to do...make animal rights an open, accepted topic in every household.

Let them be the whipping boy. To keep the topic alive, someone has to be, and nobody else is stepping up.

Lastly, check my sig...

5. The problem is that people don't educate themselves
about the other organizations out there. Everyone thinks animal rights = PETA, and that's flat-out wrong. When I lived in the Norfolk area, there were at least four other local animal rights/welfare advocacy groups operating in the area, and now that I've moved to Richmond, there are about three that I can name of the top of my head. And these groups are just concentrated on their individual metropolitan area.

PETA has a more national face, but whenever the average person thinks of animal rights/welfare, they think of PETA and no one else. Just like we blame the MSM for not covering liberal protests, it's not exactly PETA's fault that they make such good press.

6. Now I'm out of breath from running all over that thread.
This one is a lot better than most, though.

7. Yup, you were all over that one. I just sat back and watched, as I
had nothing really to add.
