4. My question exactly...

I *did* alert that one & simply asked if DU members were allowed to flame-bait in that manner. I don't begrudge anyone their right to speak up for wanting to be an "omnivore" or whatever, but there just isn't any call for anyone to be so insulting & rude about it!

I get more & more discouraged of late here at DU - it seemed like everyone was united during the election, working toward a common cause. But lately? It's become ugly in some areas, with people attacking other groups - and, let's face it - most of the attacks have been aimed toward vegetarians/vegans/animal rights activists. I suppose people only feel "safe" attacking us as a group - I mean, they couldn't get away with those kinds of posts - had they been aimed at a specific religion, race or sexual "preference".

Hmmm... just got sidetracked... Why is it called "sexual preference", anyway? That presumes that one consciously makes a decision to be heterosexual or homosexual... hmmmm, interesting thought. I'm not up with the latest terms, having been heads down at work - is there a better term in use these days than that??

7. I'm locking this thread

This is really not an appropriate use for the groups, and the moderator and DU bashing is not appropriate. The moderators have a tough job and do the best they can.

On a personal note, when we first introduced the DU groups, this was the first group that was created. I wanted to create it because I know how frustrating it can be, and I knew there were DUers who would appreciate a safe place to discuss veg/AR related issues without having to deal with the flaming.

However, please do not use this group as protection to hurl insults at specific DUers. Please also do not use this group to organize Alert campaigns or otherwise use it for inappropriate purposes. If you have questions or concerns about DU or the moderating, you should approach an admin directly or post in the Ask the Admins forum.
