Contact lense TV expected within 10 years
Huge strides in technology will enable people to watch television relayed through their contact lenses, it was revealed today.

Experts believe the continuing development in the miniaturisation of technology will result in tiny TV screens that can be simply popped onto the eye like a contact lens, becoming commonplace within the next decade.

The report was conducted by The Future Laboratory, for electrical retailers Comet.

Futurologist Ian Pearson said the contact lens would enable people to watch television in bed with their eyes closed.

He explained: "They will work just like normal contact lenses, they will be pain free and you will be able to see normally through them.

Sure hope it's the HD/Digital version and not some analogue-reject prototype...

5. By transmitting different signals to each eye
you'd be able to have true 3-D effects. Not sure if I'd want to pop one in my eye, though. 3-D glasses would be fine for me!

8. "They will be pain free"
Um, excuse me, but for some of us, with dry eyes, regular contact lenses are not "pain free". After trying to wear contacts for years, with pain and frustration my only companion, I gave up and settled for glasses.

But my real question is: why do we need this???? What purpose does it serve to watch TV through contacts instead of on a TV screen? Seems like a waste of technology to me.

11. wouldnt it be environmentally friendly?
if you had viable contact TV, you wouldn't need to build actual TVs and all of the materials that go into them.

There would also be space issues that could be resolved.

Of course you'd miss the communal/social aspect of TV watching somewhat, and one wonders how they would connect say video games and movies to the system, but heck if you can get a TV on a contact, the rest is gravy.

17. Plus you get into neat augmented reality tech as well
Pair it up with gps to overlay directions to where you're going directly in your field of view. Use a tiny camera for facial recognition and identification for those who are bad at remembering names (Sweet!) Pair it up with a camera and OCR for instant googling of whatever text you're looking at...
