What does the minimum wage need to be to fix SS?
I saw the number a month or so ago, and didn't copy it, and now it's driving me nuts not knowing. I had seen an analysis where it showed that raising the minimum wage by a dollar or two brought in enough extra taxes to make SS solvent ad infinitum. But what was the amount? Anybody remember seeing this?

1. SS does not need to be fixed. Your question is moot.

3. I KNOW it doesn't REALLY need fixing, but I think we need some
"come back" ammo to the poor blind repug sheep who believe *'s lies. He's freaking people out and we need to say, "If you're really worried, just raise minimum wage to $7 an hour, and we have no additional borrowing of $2 trillion, and no cuts in benefits!"

4. Raise the minimum wage is part of it
Rasiing that laughably low cap on taxable earnings is another part of it. This year it's $90,000. Anything above that is untaxed.

Taking the overpayment OUT of the general fund is another part of it. Social Security is solvent, so solvent it's been used for 25 years to hide the effects of the disastrous GOP tax cuts. Once people see just how bad the situation really is, there will be a will to tax the rich, which is what we desperately need to do until this country is solvent.

5. Truman's top tax rate was 3X current..was 90%. Extra 2.7 T if we do
Edited on Tue Jan-18-05 11:15 PM by oscar111
truman's rate again.

Extra 2. 7 Trillion added to the curent 2. 4 T fed revenues today.

plenty to abolish poverty, raise ss, fix potholes, add cops and firefighters, fix watermains, schools, free college, free dr's.

Wages lower now than when Reaganomics began.. adjsted for inflation. Toss reaganomics. we had prosperity under Truman. taxes educate and keep healthy the producers.. the middle class. Taxcuts keep producers sickly and uneducated.

Reaganomics only sparked mass hunger and mass homelessness.

and $1,000 per omlet at the Parker-Meridian hotel, NYC.

end poverty... no cost, if jobs for all. Use WPA, co ops, share the work. clinton's SOL Reich and Galbraith and 2 Nobelists advise the site

www.njfac.org

Job Shortage data.. job openings sub'ted from total discouraged is 14 million Job Shortage. No way these millions will ever get any job. result/ Poverty - Hunger - crime {causal sequence}.

www.bls.gov/jlt

To end poverty another way..cost is 300 billion, if grants alone used. Not popular with voters.
====================
end homelessness 4 b
end hunger 12 b
tho both included if you end poverty overall as above.

free dr's... 600 billion if you end duplicative current paperwork of insurers and nationalize dr's and big pill, cutting their profit markups.. which are huge. Now , it all costs us 1.6 T. And fails to do much... 20 nations live longer.

Many pills cost a dime in raw materials, but sell for two dollars each. Research is mostly done with tax dollars at universities, not at drug companies using profits from your pill bill. Their profit margin of 17% is proof. Margin of zero, if they were straining to use profits on research. BTW, all companies would have zero profits, if competition were real. All straining to compete by lowering prices.. would end profits.

All pills should be provided free to the sick. Obvious. "what would Jesus do?"

Just like private uses of space tech... tax dollars paid for univer.research for NASA, then private satellite firms reaped the benefits.
