BIG Brother wants to sniff-out your FEAR before you board an airliner. Seriously ...
I only WISH this was from The Onion, but alas it's not.

This is one of the creepiest things I've read in quite awhile. These people have GOT to be kidding.
Reminds me of that scene in Brazil (movie circa 1985) where the woman is being prodded and probed and
sniffed by a "security" robot. Can you imagine, if they actually try to put something like this on-line
in airports? We'd ALL be so fearful of "smelling fearful" and being pulled into a back room and water
boarded that ... well, virtually NOBODY (except maybe the Dalai Lama) would ever be able to board an
airplane on time.

BIG BROTHER WANTS TO SMELL YOUR FEAR
http://rawstory.com/blog/2009/03/big-brother-wants-to-smell-your-fear/

If you know someone who's not yet been taken aback by the ever growing police surveillance complex, show 'em this.

From the Sunday Times:

"LAW enforcement agencies are seeking scientists to develop an artificial nose that can detect the smell of fear as terrorists pass through security at airports.

The US Department of Homeland Security is advertising for specialists to devise airport scanners that will sniff out “deceptive individuals”.

<...>

Homeland Security wants a device that automatically compares odours with scents collected from crime scenes and held in a “smell bank” which, like DNA or fingerprints, could be used in court.

Last week officials said they only wanted to explore the possibilities but scientists are already predicting that it is only a matter of time before police will be able to sniff out crime artificially.

One bright spot for scent libertarians: the Times says "Lopez's Glow range and Chanel No 5" mask natural smells and confuse detector dogs, so they'll likely prove a large tripping point in the development of such a thing as an artificial nose.

It also says the nose could theoretically detect the smells of certain diseases or disorders, like cancer or depression.

Always a double-edged sword, this tech-knowledge of our's. *sigh*

4. Reminds me of the work done in the 19th century to develop criminal facial composites.
It failed. Discovering the scent of a person intending to commit a crime will fail.

5. On every flight I've ever taken,
I can see at least one person who is frightened by the idea of flying. No doubt there are many others who are fearful about flying on every flight.

None are terrorists. Many are flying for the first time.

So, this plan is going to find all of those people, then scare them some more. Wonderful!

6. Not to mention the "fear-of-fear-itself" factor ...
which FDR said is the ONLY fear in the final analysis ... a slippery slope if ever there was one.

7. They're pretty determined to keep law abiding citizens out of the sky at all costs
Why not shut down the airlines and be done with it already.

9. I was kind of hoping that with a new administration...
... the TSA's excesses of the past eight years would be curbed, but I guess I'm going to be disappointed.

8. And I've been afraid of missing my flight on occasion
Having my passage interrupted even more by the TSA isn't going to help me unpucker.

13. I've never flown and I
never will! Geez, what are they going to come up with next?!?! I didn't have a fear of flying but now I might have a fear of a fear of flying for fear that they think I've got fear! Am making any sense? Didn't think so...neither does this idea of theirs.

14. I used to fly...
two or four times a year. I was never afraid of hijackers. It's this TSA nonsense that finally motivated me to drive unless I'm going overseas. How did we manage to put these power-hungry nitwits in positions of authority?

15. All part of the illusion of security
Airport security is an illusion designed to keep people flying, not to keep planes from hitting towers. Here is what I fear--an increasingly oppressive and intrusive government operating in my best interests. Watching the TSA fumble while they do their jobs is painful; their presence is an inconvenience. I have a job where I fly a lot, and I've probably cut my flying in half because I just don't like the hassle and violation of privacy.

16. YUP...scares me..
Mainly, because the "terrorists" are US
that's right...your "big brother" is your Uncle Sam...
9/11 does not happen in US airspace.......UNLESS UNCLE SAM DID IT
ON AN ORDINARY DAY...AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL JUST TAPS THE ONBOARD

If someone was going to "terrorize" a flight....WOULD HE BE SCARED???
NO, HE IS THE GUY TRAINED TO SCARE EVERYONE ELSE.......THAT'S WHY THEY CALL THEM "TERRORISTS"
