Young student's documentary leaving audiences stunned

Kiri Davis is a young filmmaker whose high school documentary has left audiences at film festivals across the country stunned -- and has re-ignited a powerful debate over race.

I've seen this. I think the actual 7-minute film is on YouTube somewhere. Very powerful and horrible. Kudos to the 17-year-old girl who made this documentary.

2. Powerful!
I remember seeing the film from the 50s in my college psychology class. Shocking to see how little has changed in half a century....

3. Damn.. . Just, damn.
That is so very very sad. There is so much that still needs to be done. NO child should ever identify a doll that looks like them as "the bad doll". It just makes me cry that this is apparently still the case.

k&r for visibility.

Power to the people.

Anyone else think that these sort of documentaries really give power to the people?

Go Kiri!

6. I just watched it.
...and as a white person raising my 20 month old African American/White grand-niece, it struck me in the gut. I looked around my house for dollies ~ and I am sad to say, though I never bought any of them, all of them were given to her and my granddaughter (also mixed white/Mexican/Puerto Rican) they are all white dolls. I am going to go out this week and buy a black doll, and then I am going to hold and cuddle her as I used to do with my niece and granddaughter and show them that dolly is beautiful and a good doll too ~just like they are.

7. How disturbing
I certainly would have thought this would have changed.

9. disturbing indeed
While I MIGHT be able to understand it if the child was raised in an abusive environment, the only explanation I can think of for this would be excessive media exposure.
Has any research been done on the actual reasons for this?
