do you drink vinegar?
I thought I would try some the other night for its alleged benefits. I mixed it half and half with water in a four ounce cup.

Wellllll.....

That is far too strong a mixture! I don't think it's possible to drink it like that -- the body objects!

So then I read that two teaspoons in a glass of water is a good ratio. Apple cider vinegar.

Does anyone here take it regularly?

1. yes
i make my own pickles.

the sour pickles have no vinegar.

but the dills do.

i drink the solution that the dills brine in. it's vinegar, but it has some extra flavor. i find it very palatable.

love it.

i have drank an entire pickle jar full of fluid prior to sports events, also, to help me rehydrate after my pre-weigh-in weight cut

19. The medical treatment killed him!
That sounds familiar!

Death

Mavrokordatos and Byron planned to attack the Turkish-held fortress of Lepanto, at the mouth of the Gulf of Corinth. Byron employed a fire-master to prepare artillery and took part of the rebel army under his own command, despite his lack of military experience, but before the expedition could sail, on 15 February 1824, he fell ill, and the usual remedy of bleeding weakened him further. He made a partial recovery, but in early April he caught a violent cold which therapeutic bleeding, insisted on by his doctors, aggravated. It is suspected this treatment, carried out with unsterilized medical instrumentation, may have caused him to develop sepsis. He developed a violent fever, and died on 19 April. It has been said that had Byron lived, he might have been declared King of Greece.<12>

4. Honey and vinegar.
It's my favorite cough or sore throat remedy -- equal parts of honey and apple cider vinegar, warm, sipped slowly.

Also, a honey and apple cider vinegar salad dressing is one of my favorites.

Just drinking vinegar plain... not so much. :D

It was still to strong for me. I took it every day for about a week but gave up on it and never noticed any benefit. Maybe I didn't take it long enough.

9. Yes,
Braggs. 1 tsp in about 2.5 ounces of water - drink it like a shot, followed by more water (vinegar on your teeth is not a great idea in the long run). Do it first thing in the morning and two or three times more during the day.

You can add a little raw honey (or try a little agave nectar) if you really can't tolerate the taste. Cold water is easier for me to bear than warm, but some people the opposite is true.

I have GERD and started taking it when my stomach acts up. Stops the pain immediately, usually - sometimes a tsp of baking soda added will do the trick. I rarely have issues with the stomach anymore though . . . I think because of the vinegar.

It is a great way to start the day, actually (and yes, I have a cup of coffee after that - I'm not a martyr) - and it cuts sugar cravings, which is a problem for me.

11. After using white vinegar and water as a gargle for a very sore throat, I'm
a believer that it is healthful. The gargle was way more soothing and effective than salt and water.

Anyway I did qite a bit of googling about vinegar after that and one informative site is the Vinegar Institute which has links to interesting vinegar research.

13. Switchel is an old fasioned vinegar drink
Edited on Sun Nov-08-09 01:03 AM by Warpy
usually made with cider vinegar that's really refreshing in summertime. Once lemons were more widely available, lemonade took over and the tradition was lost.

Here's one recipe: http://www.hillbillyhousewife.com/switchel.htm

18. I was going to recommend switchel!
I make a simpler recipe by the glass from an old article in Mother Earth News.

1 tsp. honey
1 tsp. apple cider vinegar
1 tsp. lemon

Swirl these ingredients around and fill the glass to the top with cold water and mix.

You can modify the amounts slightly to taste.

It actually tastes pretty good. It was recommended to me after I noticed some calcium deposits accumulating on my knuckles. After a few months of drinking one or two glasses a day they went away.

20. I started using Apple Cider Vinegar for a chronic sinus infection
After several years of having to take Levaquinn 2 to 3 times per year for sinus infections, I had just become fed up. I had just finished a 2 week course of antibiotics and the infection was already coming back. In desperation I went online and did a search for natural remedies for sinus infections. I found a boatload of endorsements for ACV for this condition. I started using 2 tbs per day in a glass of water and it started improving almost immediately. After about 2 weeks it was still not completely cleared up (although much improved) so I looked for more answers. I found information on virgin coconut oil and added 2 tbs per day to that. Another week and the infection was gone. Did not have another sinus infection for 3 years. Started on the ACV and virgin coconut oil right away and, within a week, gone. I find the smell of the ACV offensive and, so, do not use it unless I need it but I do find it helpful on the days when my fibromyalgia pain gets unbearable that it helps a lot, usually improves about 10 minutes after I take it. There is something about the malic acid metabolizing the lactic acid which has built up in the muscles, or so I've heard. Not sure why it works but it does and that's what matters to me.
