2. But the "public" insurance may not be better than the private insurance option!

There is no requirement that the public insurance offer better benefits and/or be cheaper than the private insurance plans offered.

You see government insurance must have a fair "level playing field" with private insurance.

If the public option is better why in the world would anyone want private insurance?

It can't be better. That would put the private insurance industry out of business and we can't have that!
