All Americans deserve quality health care despite their economic status...
That is what we’re here for, right?
Private insurers are pushing to foist mandatory purchase requirements that will be candy coated with taxpayer funded subsidies for people who are too poor to pay their deductibles. And of course, all this would be enforced with fines. Did someone say socialism? For the rich?
Now, it’s easy to see that they are simply trying to bolster their own bottom line. But they are also seeking to squelch the public insurance option as well - thereby limiting competition and ensuring a larger customer base.
Let’s step back a moment and look at an often used real world situation that can give us some perspective - I think it bears repeating. Namely, the US Postal Service...
Of course, they do an excellent job of delivering our mail at a terrific price, right? And yet there is still enough elbow room in our economy for profitable private package delivery companies...
And so I believe it can be with health care. Now I may not be an expert in the insurance industry - but, somehow, some way, I'm sure they could find ways to innovate and stay profitable.
I can see how having mandatory requirements would help them stay competitive against a public option; so I’m not completely against the idea - but “health care reform” without a public option is no reform at all!
