The unfortunate death of John Travolta's 16-year-old son on Jan. 2 may have helped save a Calexico child.
Although Jett Travolta didn't die of Kawasaki disease, publicity over his death from a seizure shined the media spotlight on the mysterious malady he had suffered as a 2-year-old.
Channel 10 reporter Bob Lawrence was all ears. His own son had suffered from Kawasaki disease, which generally shows up in children younger than 5. So Lawrence wanted to inform viewers about this little-known malady which, if left untreated, can lead to inflammation of blood vessels, heart damage, coronary artery aneurysms and, in some cases, death.

Listening to the newscasts in a hospital in Brawley were Alejandro and Jannina Velarde, of Calexico. They were standing vigil over their 8-month-old son, Ares, who had been admitted New Year's Day.
