Gardasil, vaccines, VAERS and adverse reactions.
Edited on Wed Aug-20-08 03:03 PM by Fire_Medic_Dave
In the many recent topics on Guardasil much reference has been made to adverse reactions, vaccines and VAERS. The following statement was in one article, "The TGA has received 1013 reports of suspected adverse reactions to Gardasil, including soreness, swelling, redness or other reaction at the injection site (20percent), headaches (20percent), dizziness (15percent), nausea (16percent) and vomiting (6.9percent)." People have these same reactions to an injection of Normal Saline. If you stick a needle in someones arm and inject a liquid into the muscle is their arm being sore the next day an adverse reaction? Is them experiencing a vasovagal reaction, an adverse effect of the injection or of the vaccine? I have a friend whose wife gets dizzy, nauseous and sometimes passes out if she is approached with a needle. I have a paramedic friend who passes out every time they try and give him a shot, don't worry he can give them just fine. Many of these symptoms can be attributed to a vasovagal reaction. Should those be reported to VAERS? If you believe so can you tell me what is physiologically taking place and what in the vaccine specifically is causing that physiological reaction? I really don't want the continued flame war, but this is a great place to bounce ideas off a wide variety of people. Thanks in advance for your input.

5. That's because your questions don't involve evil pharmaceutical companies...
or conspiracies to give all children in the world autism. Toss a couple of those gems, and I'm sure you'll get some responses right quick.

7. Questions about the TGA.
You might not be able to answer them but hopefully one of our friends abroad may be able to help out.

What exactly is the The Therapeutic Goods Administration and do we have its equivalent here in the states?

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is investigating whether the shot of Gardasil caused the sudden inflammation of the pancreas in the three patients, or whether it was just a coincidence.

I have to go now, got an early appointment at the hospital, but I will pick this up later tomorrow morning.

And Dave, thanks for trying to raise the bar.

9. Gardasil does not inoculate against fear.
And fear seems to be the major adverse reaction for many of the posters here.

It's funny how they can get the adverse reaction without taking the vaccine. :)

10. OMFGZ! You can get an adverse reaction even without taking it?
This must be the most dangerous substance known to man.

12. Soreness and swelling don't generate enough fear to warrant a response
But just one unexplained genital wart, and the shit hits the fan.

"vaginal scrunch".

Maybe you can figure a way to work that in somewhere. :)

14. Questions like this one seem to go unanswered often here.
Is it your impression that the swelling is an adverse reaction to the vaccine? If so what physiological mechanism is causing that swelling and why does the vaccine cause it at twice the rate of normal saline?

20. So you answered them before they were asked?
That's a neat trick. I don't consider,"which swelling & immune response?" to be much of an answer to either of those questions. Your other answer, "my point wasn't that swelling was untoward, but that it was double ns placebo in response to a comment that seemed to imply similar response rates." is in fact what prompted the question in the first place. Feel free to direct me to the exact post where you answered them by providing a link.

21. my answer was "immune response" & that i didn't consider it
an untoward event, but posted ONLY because an earlier post seemed to imply that the incidence of those minor reactions was similar to normal saline.

post should have been read: "which swelling?" and "immune response" not "which swelling & immune response". Two parts.

22. Ok so swelling is not an adverse reaction and it's cause is an immune response.
Thanks.
