How does Flexeril compare to Soma?
I may have Fibromyalgia and my Dr. prescribed Flexeril. Has anyone had any experience with this drug? I've used Soma before and it help but she wanted me to try Flexeril.

1. I find Flexeril to be quite a bit stronger
Plus, it knocks me out for about 8 hours. I'm a lightweight, though, something my rheumy didn't take into consideration when he prescribed it every 6 hours. It's one of the first line drugs for fibro along with SSRIs.

The poop, the whole poop, and nothing but the poop is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclobenzaprine

You'll find it most helpful an hour before bedtime and the effect carries through to the next day.

2. Flexeril woks for me, but...
...It knocks me out for several hours. I only use it when I have severe back pain. I think I might want to try Soma, because Fexeril puts me to sleep and I CANNOT use it if I need to work or otherwise be consious...

3. Oh, crap. THAT's why I can't wake up today.
I took a Flexoril when I went to bed because I bunged up my neck again lifting something that wouldn't have strained a kitten.

7. Yeah, but it was a godsend when I spasmed my neck
Carrying giftwrapped Christmas cookies thru Penn Station. Oh, that hurt.

4. soma make me a bit loopy, but manageable. The only downside is you quickly build
a tolerance to it. I'm having problems with my neck at the moment and I found it worked great the first couple of days, and then its effectiveness begins to taper off.
I had flexeril once a long time ago and found it worked better, but since I changed doctors, he doesn't prescribe it for me for some reason.
with either you have to be careful if you have to drive or work, better to take at night. Never drink with either (sounds obvious, but it will seriously mess you up for a while)

sorry, not a doctor, so that's the best I can tell you.

6. The few times I've taken Flexeril (10 mg), I've cut the tablets in to six pieces...
and took one sixth of the tablet instead of the whole tab.

I still was totally relaxed with it.

Other folks I know can take two tabs and not be as relaxed as I was with one sixth of a tablet.

The only way to find out how you will react is to take one. Ask your pharmacist to give you one or two tablets to see how you react. If you find it works for you, have the whole Rx filled.

If not, call your doctor for a different Rx.

8. Good idea.
Come to think of it, I do that with most pills. I guess I was in awe of this one.

9. Well, I took a flexeril this afternoon and it did make me go to sleep but
I didn't want to go to sleep. I guess I'll take them at night. The pain is usually worse then anyway.
