Bid To Force Minn. Vote On Gay Marriage Amendment Fails

The Democratically controlled Minnesota Senate Thursday rejected a Republican bid to force a vote on a constitutional ban on gay marriage.

Sen. Michele Bachmann (R-Stillwater) who has led the fight for the ban, made her motion on the Senate floor as thousands of gays, lesbians and their supporters rallied against it outside on the Capitol lawn.

After her attempt was rebuffed Bachmann accused Democrats of repeatedly denying her efforts to get the bill heard. She says the issue has become more important than ever because of rulings by judges around the country favoring the rights of gays to marry.
