The Word of the day "consequences" - My thoughts on further Publication of Donors
Edited on Mon Nov-24-08 02:30 PM by Ioo
I have been thinking a lot about the Publication of Donors that came out after the defeat of Prop 8 (My partner and I were married in CA 6 weeks ago, so we have skin in the fight).

I read the list, almost every single one of the names, places of work, and the amount. and I do not feel one once of "sorry" for the names on that list... you want to donate more than $1000 bucks to a cause, you know they are going to have to publish your name... if you do not feel so strongly as to accept that fact being made public, then you need to rethink your donation...

THAT SAID....

Has the Publication of Donors does good? Sure it has. Has it also been misguided as all hell? You bet'cha. Allow me to explain.

We have to be smart when we look at the list. I think the example that stands out to me is the Mexican food place. I CAN NOT and WILL NOT hold an owner of a place hostage because something a LOW LEVER SERVER or COOK or MANAGER does...I may not go there, but I AM NOT PROTESTING THE PLACE. I just can't. Now, if I go in there (I would not), I will make DAMN sure that that server is not MY server... because the consequence of her donation is that I do not want to deal with her (or him). It is not the owners fault what she/he does... Just like it is not the employers fault if she/he were caught drunk driving... But to stand out side with signs!

NOW! That is why I said we have to be smart here.... Would I go and use the services of a place where a "principal" of the company made a donation, HELL NO, BOYCOTT their asses into the ground...protest until it hurts... and that is my point... there is a huge difference to me a low-level accountant at KPMG giving a donation and the CFO of KPMG, or Owner of something else.

THis is where we are catching the slack if you ask me, it is because we went for the low hanging fruit, and in the end, we punished the wrong people.

Please go and re-read the list, and think about that... Think OWNERSHIP. Does this person OWN the BIZ, IN WHOLE OR IN PART... If YES BOYCOTT...

Further, on a side note... getting a person fired for an opinion is no better than you being fired for being gay... Never ever wish someone be fired fr something like that, because the karma is just to great if you ask me... Do not worry, people like those that supported prop 8 are going to be mighty shocked when they reach the final stop of life... they will not need our help.

Thank you for your time, carry on :P

1. they are NOT blacklists..they are from public records..please do not
perpetrate right wing memes. a list of campaign donors of any sort is just that, public record.

5. Hey, tell me where the busboys have a grand to donate
No really. Name me the restaurant and the busboy. What's he clearing, 250K like Joe the Plumber? That is a minimum wage job, I find it hard to buy that one...this seems like the passing on of rumors from dubious sources.
