Anti-gay hatred - unleashed on Craigslist
I really had no idea that the level of hatred for gays was still so intense in this country.

Craigslist has a "Rants and Raves" category where anyone can post anything. I had barely looked at it in the past because it just seemed to be stupid or silly posts that meant nothing to me.

But after the election, I took a look and was shocked by what I read. As has been mentioned here before, the passage of Prop 8 has empowered the gay-haters. I almost start to shake as I read some of their rants.

I hate to compare it to Nazi Germany, but we all know what happened to the Jews. As their rights were taken away, the hatred toward them only increased.

There have been hundreds of posts like these in the last week since Prop 8 passed. These are from the Los Angeles Craigslist. They're frightening. With Prop 8 being challenged, my fear is that they're going to get worse. And if Prop 8 is repealed, well...I just can't imagine what's going to happen.

If you know anyone who voted "Yes" on Prop 8 or for any other anti-gay legislation, share these posts with them so they know who they're siding with.

Fags need to realize they dont deserve to get married and never will (LA)

All you fags need to realize that marriage is between a man and a woman. Thats the way its always been and it should be sacred. If you want to get married make up another word for it or some shit but leave "marriage" alone.

Your not a "group" of people who have had your right taken away - asians, blacks, females are people who have had there rights taken away because THEY HAD NO OTHER CHOICE to change themselves.

You have a choice to fuck the opposite sex or the same sex. Even if you beleive the bullshit that your "born" gay, therees been studies done that people are predespositioned to be "felons" as well. Whats next? Them marching so they can vote or buy guns?

You guys are fuckin creepy and mostly effeminate, thats why most of you do drugs to get away from your fuckin miserable lives. And dont go preaching that your "the new queer", only reason your getting away with this shit is because most people are too pussy nowadays. Man, i wish this was the 60's and 70's, hell even the 80's, I would love beating the shit out of you queers for walking down the street holding hands and watch people around me to join in.

Gays are single-handedly destroying the earth!!!

They are, it's true! They're ruining EVERYTHING!!! Marriage, families, the environment, and now they're causing traffic jams? I mean this has got to stop. God is getting very angry and He will not stand for this much longer. Homos are not natural and anyone who says they are is a HOMO HIMSELF. I mean come on--the whole idea of man with man is just ridiculous. Why don't you homos just man up and get yourselves a woman. It ain't gonna kill you but being gay will! And while you're at it stay away from animals! I know how you sickos are. You just keep on pushin' the envelope further and further. This has to stop--we need to rise up and fight back.

BOYCOTT GAY BUSINESSES (Fair Play)

Reply to: [email protected]

Lets show the gays what a boycott really feels like. Lets boycott gay busienss to show them that they can not dictate what the rest of us do. They do not respect the rule of law or the right to vote. They are unamerican selfish narcesists. If a business is gay owned or hires openly gay people, take your business elsewhere.

If someone has a list of gay owned businesses lets post em to make it easier.

It is a showdown. Your right to free speech does not include you forcing us to listen by blocking traffic and being an annoyance. We know how you feel, now shut up before we force you underground.

1. Expect it to get worse: a doomed political party that has long used hate
as a weapon for hanging onto power is gearing up for another culture war.

I know this won't be a popular position, but I think we need to start arming ourselves. Make examples of a few of the bashers.

25. I had no such problem
I went and took the concealed carry course from the local sheriff's department and I go weekly to the range. I've been properly trained and I stay in practice. I'm still as excellent a marksman as a was 30 years ago in the military. I never miss.

I live in the country and have to deal with critters to protect my furbabies. I have three dogs, city girls, who live mostly indoors and are pretty defenseless against foxes, raccoons, coyotes or anything that might take a mind to hurt them. I'm not scared of anybody, but I'm shitscared of rabies. I'd much rather shoot something threatening me or my furbabies at a distance than have it attack me or one of my preciouses. Mind, I'm not going to shoot something if it's going about its own business, but if it comes after my furkids or me, it's dead.

I do work in the city and have a permit on the way. If it gets sufficiently creepy, I will carry. I have no qualms.

2. This is some ugly sh*t. But not Prop8 per se'
It's all of the gay hating rhetoric that the rw has been spewing for years that causes this type of internalized homophobia.

The vote for P8 by bigots was just the icing on the cake and the loss during the GE and all that macho Joe the plumber bullsh8t and saracuda hate rallies have fanned this into a crescendo.

That's why I am advocating hangigg together during these difficult time, keep haing with us here on this forum, we can be supportive, positive and affirmative.

I will say this again, if you took out the hate words such as "fags" and put in any other race, religion or ethnicity it would not be tolerated - but if it's gays, it seems to be the norm in Amerika.

We need to stay united, supportive and plan smart.

3. They have been spewing it for years, but this feels like an explosion
I barely looked at the Rants section on Craigslist in the past, but I've noticed that even some of the regular posters there appear to be shocked by the rhetoric.

It's scary to me, but on other hand, I'm so glad I don't carry the hatred that these guys have rotting away inside of them. It's awful.

7. There have been recent reports
of assaults on gays, in just the last few days, across DU.

This is meant to instill fear in gays, cause us anxiety, withdrawal from the public square and to still our voices, to feel shame and crawl back into our closet/cage and in so doing causes gays stress and anxiety, fear and depression and probably also damages the pigs shouting hate - but I don't care about them.

I care about us.

The inter net gives us power. Separate, alone, spread across the country we are a minority and in the past these pogroms have caused people to hide for safety.

My thoughts are - yes, the hate is out there.

Yes, it's reasonable to monitor this, in so far as it doesn't make anyone of us get depressed and anxious. If it does get away from it and be affirmative and get support from our own group, right here.

I, and this is just MHO, would not engage irrational inter net mob mentality haters. It's non-productive, just what they want, that's why it's gay baiting.

Find: hope, comfort and acceptance among our own.

Here on DU I find a strong, smart, funny GLBT community, we are working on these hate issues here on DU, among progressives and building a support base, especially an emotional support base for ourselves, by ourselves ( with the support of good people who are heterosexual).

Here are some things you can check out that have been posted here to discuss some notions, like it's a choice that we come out openly as opposed to passing, about how GLBTQ is natural, and the psychologic consequences of being subjected to hate, hate language and hate baiting:

11. Good post!
If I can give some advice (which I'm going to try to apply to myself as well), it's this: Don't obsess over the hatred. It might even be a good idea to not even look at anti-gay rants on Craigslist or anywhere else. Reading their hateful posts almost makes me feel like I'm taking a hammer to my own head. It's not good for my health, and it accomplishes nothing.

6. I've known
that this kind of stuff was going on craigslist for quite a while. People are very bigoted here in Kentucky. They hate liberals with a passion here. They also hate gay people as well, though you never know it when you go to the man for man section and see quite a few ads advertising for sex.

So you hate gay people but you love getting fucked in the ass. How ironic is this?

Also, this is another thing that irks me about heterosexual people in general. They have no problems seeing two lesbians have a sexual relationship. In fact, many men that I know who like that, want to get in on the action, they think it's hot. But, mention two men getting it on and they get offended, fast.

My question is this, why is it that what goes on in our bedrooms is any of your business? Why do you get offended at what we do in our bedroom? I've noticed a pattern, straight people don't get enough sex. Hell, I've had straight people approach me and ask if they could have sex with me. I've even had married men approach me and ask. It always makes me wonder, if your gay to begin with, why the hell did you get married?

Look at the scandals from the Catholic Church. Notice they we're mostly men. How can you sit there and com dem homosexual people when you're participating in the act yourself.

9. Okay, well, let me defend the hetero guys for a moment....
When a straight guy sees two attractive women going at it, it's natural that he's going to be turned on. It has nothing to do with approving or disapproving of same-sex relationships. He simply sees two hot girls, and his pecker gets hard.

Don't expect hetero guys to be at all interested in hearing about two guys getting it on. It doesn't mean they're anti-gay if they're not interested in gay sex. They're not interested in men sexually. That's all there is to it.

12. Porn is fantasy
straight guys fantasy is about sex with women, two women having sex on a prono film is about lesbian life like House Wives of Orange county is about the real life of middle Amerikkka during a recession.

10. There is no such thing as lesbian porn
loyalkydem, I hear ya' but, here's a thought:

It's all about straight men having a fantasy about having sex with two very heterosexual women having sex with each other as a prelude to the guy getting in on it.

The so called lesbian porn is not - I repeat NOT - about real lesbians. It is bullshit fantasy.

Similar to straight porn, the actors are not like their wives they are actors...you are not going to find too many porn films depicting the real women in their lives.

The real fatasy of these het's is to beat the shit out of real life lesbians who
a.) refuse to even think of talking to them, much less have any remote possibility of physical contact with them
b.) who are real women and not some trashy clown-whore make up fanatsy figure.

15. Yeah, it's anonymous, but...
...these are their REAL feelings, and that's what makes it scary to me.

In a way, the anonymity is good because it allows them to expose themselves fully, and we can see what they're really thinking. It's an intense reality-check for me - and probably many others who aren't used to hearing that type of rhetoric.
